Archived Fixture Room

The first few years in my store the fixture room was always a disaster area. Often, it was a PITA to even get back to the Signing PC. The past couple of years though our ETL-LOG has been anal about keeping the fixture room brand. Sometimes it can get a little hairy through the holidays, but never as it was in the past.

My store tried the whole keeping the fixture room locked thing too- It lasted just over a week.

Every few months our STL makes us lock the fixture room. Usually lasts a day or two. At first it's actually locked, then within a few hours it's "fake locked" (padlock through the hasp but not actually locked), and a day or two later it's not locked at all.

We might be able to actually keep it locked if the signing and label PC wasn't in there.

After all, it isn't THAT hard to put stuff back where it goes... is it? ;)

You would think...

Eventually you get to a point where there is nothing more you can do.....

Yeah, it used to be real bad. I felt like I was going to die if I walked in there. It was like a ticking time bomb for a team member accident. If we couldn't find someone the joke used to go " I can't find * insert name*. The reply would be "look in the fixture room under some shelves." it was just plain bad.

Already happened.

Our fixture room is clean now, but it has looked like a disaster in the past. I am on pog and we have had to spend a day cleaning it a few times, this time finally it is staying clean. Good thing because it was starting to piss us off because we put stuff where it goes but then others would just put stuff wherever they felt like, yet we are the ones who always have to clean it.

Too many people touch stuff in our fixture room that they shouldn't be touching for it to look neat. We have fixtures we don't even use anymore buried underneath newer fixtures.

@PinkButterfly, It's hard to find where stuff goes, at least at my store. Say I find a random softlines peg on the sales floor near furniture. I have no idea where it goes in the fixture room. So either I spend 3-5 minutes looking for the bin it goes in, or I drop it in the first bin I see, or in whatever random cart/bin happens to be in the fixture room. Not like I can look it up on the PDA to find where it goes.

unfortunately that's how most people think. my fixture room is organized.. softlines stuff in one area HL in another etc.. but instead of taking that extra minute to put it away people just dump it in the first bin they see. then the next person see its not sorted and they dump it and next thing you know we have to spend a whole 8 hours cleaning up after all those lazy asses who couldnt be bothered

At my store, we have labels and/or pictures on each of the bins. We have a great organizational system in our fixture room, but nobody cares enough to follow it and it becomes the aforementioned death trap.

I admit I did the same in the past when it was not organized and I had no idea where something went. Most of the time I did not have the time to spend searching for the right place to put stuff. I am so thankful that it is now organized...not only is it easier to put stuff away...but its also easier to find stuff when I need something.

Sounds like my store. Our POG TL is on top of everyone to keep it clean. And so far it has stayed. A few stray shelves and tubs but we get that cleaned up before it gets out of hand. I can feel good about walking in there without fear of something falling on me.

I'm looking into organizing the fixture room after the holidays. Does anyone know the part number to the adhesive sticker that has the part number and picture of the fixture that goes in front of the Waco. i have looked all over in sap and can't find them.

I reorganized our fixture room for Bounce Back and if I remember to do so, I'll try to get you some info on the picture envelopes They might have been something bought directly from an office supply store. I know the part pictures are something that have to be printed off so I would ask your leadership team if they know anything about them. I ended up having to take ~50 pictures with my phone.

<------(signing specialist) I have asked and no one knows. I might have to do that then. Let me know if you have more info. Much appreciated, thanks.

Looks great, except for those flipped shelves...

Here's a picture of mine right after bounce back. I wish I could say that the team is able to maintain this level of organization but it's definitely not the case (See exhibit 2). I've since gone to the backroom and have washed my hands of the whole room :v

Ya'll got some huge fixture rooms. Everything in my store, and if I'm not mistaken, the stores in my area, is cramped. Mostly because by county law, you can't run a business out of a building you own. You have to rent the building from someone >.>
