Archived GSA? HR? What?!

Cmat you're not offensive at all I am just debating what would my next step be (besides talking to my HR ETL) because the position in not open YET. The person JUST gave her 2 weeks notice and the GSA position should be assigned withing the next 10 days. Now that being said, I am just asking everyone to share their experiences so that I can actually gauge whether or not I will have a shot at it or lose both chances for a promotion.
Of course I want HR but I know for a fact that I have more shots at GSA that is why I am so indecisive.
Thanks for the feedback though. Now I really now that HR is what I want!

Of course GSA is available... nobody wants it

In my store everyone wants it, probably because is a ULV store.

Have these TM ever worked up front or as a GSA?. Being as it's a ULV, I would suspect even more is expected of each GSA, meanwhile being less likely you'll get any more than the fifty cent raise. Go ahead and serif you like it if you want t to. We will be anxiously awaiting your juicy horror and regret stories next month.

Update!
Today I talked to my HR ETL and she pretty much took the words out of my mouth and clarified my concerns. Apparently they opened the position yesterday (I was off) and all ETLs and the STL came up with my name when they thought of who would be a good candidate for HR. At the same time they really would love to see me in the front for GSA so we talked it out and I said that I would accept GSA if they offer it to me but I'd rather shoot for HR.
They will close HR and GSA position on Friday and announce the "winners" then. HR will stay open for barely a week because they need someone to start immediately and the position is only open for TMs. Also I will be able to skip another round of interviews which is nice.

tl;dr
They see me fitting in either positions but I am choosing HR over GSA

Thank you everyone!

The best choice, for sure! Congratulations!!!

Like most have said, go for HR.
If they interview for it, highlight your organizational skills, your ability to multitask and prioritize tasks, and how you promote a fast, fun, and friendly work environment.

Having knowledge of Excel and Word would help. Targets payroll system is very different from QuickBooks, Peachtree, or any home HRIS or payroll software, so no need to learn an outside program.

Your primary responsibilities will be staffing (scheduling interviews, doing orientation), training (training schedules, and following up on training and learning plans), scheduling (creating and maintaining the weekly schedule, swap shifts), and payroll (fixing punches, keying vacation hours and sick time)

There's a hundred other small tasks that will be dropped into your lap, so learn to prioritize and learn when to partner with others to get things done. You'll need to build relationships with the leadership in your store to make your life easier and you should also take the time to get to know the people in your store. For years, I knew every single person in our store by first and last name, as well as all of their work centers they're trained in, their preferred work centers, and their scheduling preferences. You will have to make yourself available to answer all kinds of questions and listen to people complain about schedules, pay, hours, team members, team leads, and do it with a smile. Plus, you'll learn this number (1800-394-1885) by heart, because you'll be calling them with all of your HR questions.

With all of that said, it really is the most rewarding position in the store once you get the hang of it, so definitely go for it, and I'll be here if you have any questions at all.

Thank you all for your help, advice, and brutal honesty.
I don't have the position yet but if everything goes as planned, as of next week I will be in HR. I will not let this opportunity go! There's always time to get back on the floor but you don't get many opportunities to be in HR!
Next week I'll give you a very happy update (hopefully)

Hello beautiful people!
I'm hoping to get some experiences and advices from all of you regarding my situation at Target.
I work in FA and I recently applied for gsa. I was pretty much asked to apply for this position and aaparently a lot of people have faith in me. We're currently just waiting for the end of the interview process.
In the meantime. ...today I heard that our HR put her 2weeks notice in. One of my ETLs asked me if I had experience in clerical and if I would be interested in the position. I let him know that I had some experience back in my home country and that I would love to apply the position, I told him that if he knows me even slightly, he knows that I want to geow and develop, doesn't really matter where. And when it came down to the job itself I know I am wasy too stubborn to not learn and I strive for perfection and I am a fast and avid learner.
He also said that due to my very neutral relationships around the store, I would be a good candidate for the position.
Anyways, I am asking for your thoughts. What kind of skills would you think are necessary to move to HR? Would it be worth to try master excel or quickbooks before the position opens or is it not necessary? What kind of position is it (TL, specialistic, other)? Which one is more stressful, higher pay grade? Anyone has had HR experience?
I would love to have a shot at hr because even outside of Target it would be a nice addition to the resume but I really want to make sure that I am fit for the position so that I won't lose my job in case I got it!
Anyone cares to share their wisdom?

Going from the HR Ladies at my store, be super organized to almost robot proportions. Have an awesome sense of humor. Be an empathetic person, but that goes for just about everything in life, and have good memorization/people skills.

Last, but not certainly least, be able to cook a MEAN Hamburger at 4am for the Flow team on Memorial day, and keep that grilling prowess going for at least the opening team.

Oh wow I really better check my grilling skills!

I must say, I would be pretty excited to start working in that position!

Excellent!
Now start polishing those mad organizational skills & hit the ground running ;)
