is there anything stating that we must have a holster if we are using a gun? I work in the backroom and absolutely hate the holsters, they make my shirt ride up, put weight on my waistline of my pants, and put pressure on my back. my TL told me i need to be wearing one and it is a rule and mandatory, but somehow i dont think thats true. i can see where it can help when carrying boxes or going up ladders but after so long of not using one i do my job just as well without one.

anyone know if using a holster is mandatory?

My store recently got new PDAs (shock and awe!) and is now requiring that everyone have a holster at all times. However... I always wear high waisted skirts to work and a holster would look ridiculous with my skirt plus it would probably pull it down, so I never wear one. Our signing specialist said something about it (we sort of like to pick on each other anyways so it hardly counts) but that's it. No one else has said anything.

i dont think it is but it helps me alot. my TL dosent even use the holster, we also have another backroom team member who dosent wear it.

but if there making you wear it, dont use that stupid belt that comes with the holster, thats what makes it uncomfortable, instead, take the holster part and put your own belt threw it, thats what i do and it dosent bother me at all, no weight, it dosent sag my pants and all those problems.

The majority of our holsters ripped out where the loop was stitched so no one uses them.
There are one or two of the old, old leather ones but they're hoarded by BR.

Old leather ones are the best ones. It's a safety issue, on ladder with 3 points of contact. Just ask your hr to order some new ones.

I always preferred the leather straps when using a PDA. My ETL-HR said it was a safety best practice to wear a holster.

Also, did anyone else expect this thread to be about these?

My backroom peeps have issues with the pda they keep setting them down and forget where they put them. It was funny at first but then when they all started to do it and waste 10 minutes or more looking for them, I told them if they lost their pda's again they are wearing holsters since they are to absent minded to keep up with a piece of equipment. I've only had to enforce this with a few people so far.

After we lost a couple of guns the store made holsters required.
It's gotten a bit lax lately.

No actual policy. But my old store made us wear them because people had been dropping them and our old LRTs. And always had to be sent off to be repaired/replaced. Or just leaving them on a shelf for a guest to steal.

The problem is that those belts run very small. It would help if you could just snap to your belt.

if the belts are too small for you, clip two of them together

Two PDA's should make you twice as efficient!!

True but then again shift 7 is my friend.

TMs who seem to have an issue with the belts pulling their pants typically wear their pants loosely and choose to set the belt for the holster loose also.

A few of my fellow TMs have worn the belt across their chest. Doing this makes the gun hang only on the hip though. I like my gun to sit behind me.

Does anyone else sorta cringe when TM's chatter about "guns" over the walkie? I would be self conscious about a guest hearing "Hey steve, do you have a gun I could borrow?" over the walkie.

One alternate to wearing a holster is to put the handle part of the PDA between your belt and your pants, usually in your back. It looks dang uncomfortable but there's a couple TM's at our store that do it. Just make sure that you don't actually shove the PDA down your pants...ewwwww. I did see someone do that and I wanted to check which PDA they had so I would make a note to never use it, lol.

There is the shoulder holster style carrier.
Those are the most popular ones at our store.

At my store they just say PDA over the walkie. They hardly ever refer to them as "guns".

Then they'd REALLY disappear 'cause everybody would want their OWN.

I remember reading here that there was a way to change the sound files to make them sound like phasers.
I wonder if you could do the same thing and make them sound like a gunpowder gun, that would keep the guests away.

I'd want the phaser sound but ONLY if it comes with a working PHASER! :spiteful:
