MEGATHREAD Hang Me (The Softlines Thread)

Ever since one of our MBTMs quit, it's been horrid in some zones. I was working on Sunday and as soon as I got called in early, we had a full fitting room + GS cart of go backs to be worked out. I worked on a cart, and then went up for backup cashiering and was up at the front lanes for about half an hour.

I finally got back to my zone and it was being shopped like crazy on top of mixed merchandise everywhere! I was trying to be out of guests' way whilst trying to be like CIHYFS whilst many of them were all pissed off and glaring at me because I was in the way! Dear god, sorry for trying to be available for guest assistance! I walked away, trying to zone what I could, and I heard this rude ass woman say that I was being "inconsiderate" by trying to move things whilst they were trying to find things. I wasn't even in her way in the first place! Okay, bitch.

I went for back-up cashiering again because apparently
no one else on the sales floor is capable of going up. I finally got back to my zone after another half hour. We closed an hour early on this day, so I was getting super worried. Also, super bitch from earlier had somehow managed to unfold every shirt I had folded earlier.

"Team, we need back-up to the front lanes."

I still hadn't taken my lunch yet at this point and I was about have a panic attack. I had no where near enough time. Nothing was set to adjacency anymore. Short sleeves were mixed with long sleeves, red and green together, nothing in order by size. I got back to the fitting room and decided I would take my lunch (It was scheduled for that time anyway) and I called for our closing LOD on walkie. I explained the situation to our ETL-AP and he said "Okay, just keep working. You can do it." I was like "WHAT!" And then he talked to our other closing LOD and she had the same reaction as I did. She came over to me personally and asked me to explain and I was trying to explain but instead just kinda walked with her and waved to the fucked up, mixed up, unfolded clothes that I had folded just minutes before.

She sent me on my lunch and I went outside. Seven missed calls from mom. Oh dear god. She hadn't left a voicemail or text so I was worried. I rang her back, and she didn't pick up. I tried again, and she answered,
"Just so you know, -- is back in the hospital again. I'll be there, so don't go to my house after work." After that, two missed calls from dad, plus a voicemail because he actually leaves voicemails. Next, two missed FaceTime calls from my boyfriend + one text with an attachment of my dog with shampoo bubbles all around him during a bath. He was taking care of my dog whilst I was at work and decided to bathe him. That cheered me up a bit. Next up, 23 missed messages on a group chat with my close friends. They were planning another memorial for our friend to celebrate the two year anniversary. I missed out on pretty much all the planning, so I read up on the details in the chat and then replied. Time to clock back in. I got back to the madness, and the LODs decided I should get another z-rack and pull all the mixed product off. I did, and kept zoning.

"Team, we need two back-ups to the front lanes."

We had two full carts of go-backs + two full z-racks at this point, plus a half cart we'd just gotten from Guest Services.

"Team, we still need another back up!"

I kept zoning (per instruction of the LOD) and tried to fix the clearance. We were still a little busy and it was 30 minutes before closing. "Excuse me ma'am do you have any of this in the back?" We did. I take care of that guest and get back to zoning. We have 15 minutes until close and still the same amount of go backs. A couple HLTMs come to help in Softlines. We keep zoning, and the store closes. Everyone's in Softlines at this point.

After 5 minutes, the team splits up with some on go-backs and others on zoning. We finish zoning 39 minutes after close. Everyone's pissed cos of that z-rack of dumped clothes. I help TMs put items away and see others just dumping piles back on the racks because they want to get out. I keep saying "Sorry." over and over for adding to the go backs. It was an hour after close by this point.

The LOD is helping and says "I'm just pissed they let it get this bad." (Referring to the dayside/brand team) Those of us closing SLs agreed. MBTM's friend goes "This is why I left Softlines." And I thought to myself, "Honey, if your friend didn't walk out on us, this adjacency would be set be set, and we wouldn't have Xhilaration all fucked up." I tried to reword it, but in the moment I couldn't, so I just said it aloud minus the swear word. Everyone paused for a bit, and after she didn't reply, we finished up the go-backs. Everyone was walking to the time clock over an hour after close and she walks with me and says, "Are you looking to get out of Softlines, too?"

Is it completely the TM that quit's fault? No, not really. But when we have 3 hours to zone the biggest zone in SLs, lots of go backs, angry guests, and a need for back-up everyone hour or less on the lanes, it should be pretty clear we need support.
Damn what a tough day. You really need to not kill yourself over your target job. It's not worth having an anxiety over. If the LOD gives you shit for not having it done, who cares!! They're not going to coach you for doing your job. Keep on keeping on, good luck.

Are any of you brand tms? Do you like it? Was the quarter raise worth all the added work/stress? Did your hours go up?

I was sooorta offered intimates/activewear.... and I kinda don't wanna take it, because Idk if the stress vs pay will be worth it. But at the same time, I think it looks better if I take it lol. Idk... they offered me the worst area of softlines lol. At first glance all those stupid c9 pants look the same!

I am a brand TM. But it's pretty much in name only. They didn't give me an area, they just said Softlines. LOL...OK? But I am the go-to person for anything and everything SL related.

Intimates and Activewear are a PITA, but if IF you are given the opportunity (hours set aside) to get in there and really work it, it'll be OK.

ETA: I did see an increase in my hours and I was able to work a lot of day shifts, but mainly FRO. So yeah.

My ETL mentioned wanting to have someone be brand for those areas. My store is also pretty bad in Active/Intimates, but I feel like once someone is actually able to be in those areas and clean them up, they won't be able to get as bad again. They offered you the worst areas because those are the areas that need the most attention, which is why they want someone specifically for those areas. Don't feel like you have to say yes if it's something you're not really interested in. The raise is nice, but if you're going to hate doing it and you don't want to move up at Target, it might not be worth the $.25.

On the other hand, if you are interested in moving up it is a good way to start. Your hours going up will sort of depend. My store promised 10 hours a week in your area but that could be on top of your normal shifts or instead of 10 softlines/FR hours, depending on what you prefer or what they need. That would be something to ask at your store.

Eh. I'm probably gonna take it. If it sucks, at least my resume is better. They didn't choose it because it's the worst area, though. It's a focus area. The other focus areas (shoes, nit) already have brand tms. The specialist who did I/A left a couple months ago, so the area is... tornado-ish now.

I don't wanna move up at target (unless that opportunity appears before an opportunity to leave does), but I probably won't hate it. From what I understand, I'm already doing parts of the job without any qualms anyway. But I like to keep my anxiety low, and the hour vs amount of work situation worries me. I'll wait and see what they say about it, though. I didn't realize the hours might differ much across stores.

The bright side of this tentative offer situation is I'm now less worried about work. Last year, they gave my unofficial area away (nit) officially annnd I thought they hated me. I mentally prepare to be fired all the time

Once you get the hang of it it will be the easiest thing.

Just keep in mind any new stuff coming in and trying to remember where you set it and all becomes natural.

Softlines brand was the best years of Target for me. :3

I think I would enjoy being a brand tm. I love organization and being able to focus on a specific area/project. My store doesn't have them :(

Detail zoning is my favorite thing when I have time. It's therapeutic to me. That's why I like q4. There's a million people working so I get to focus and let the newbies run up for backup.

Well, it wasn't an official offer. My tl is rooting for me I guess though. There's two brand positions coming apparently and she keeps rotating me and the other girl with detail zone tasks to decide who they wanna offer which. I told the other girl and she doesn't want it either lol. I'd take it if there was sure guaranteed hours though.

But guys, I recently realized that my store's fitting room look isn't the norm. Do you guys have a "shed" area where your sorted reshop is sorta hidden from guests? Mine does but my tl's been training TLs (like 3 in the last two months) and none of their stores have it.

Once you start looking for those on the tags, it's not as hard.

At my store they can't even look at the LENGTH of the pants. You will see black pants that are mixed up with black capris. I help our SFS guy find things in softlines often. We've started SFS in the last month or so. Even with the RFID reader items are STILL sometimes difficult to find. If Target really wants to go in this direction (I think this is a great idea) they would help themselves (& their stores) be more successful if they carried fewer items that are almost the same thing. The C-9 pants are the biggest example, take a minute to look at them and you will see 3 different "fits" (Embrace, Freedom & Flawless) with 3 different lengths (Regular, Long & Short) and then pants in a certain fit that are just slightly different from another style. It will only take you a couple minutes of looking to realize what a absolute nightmare it would be if your store gets a SFS order for C-9 pants

Same. My store has a problem with pants in general. Merona work pants, msc yoga pants, jeans in every dept, c9 pants. It's all a cluster. I fix them every so often, but it doesn't last.

I think once embrace freedom and flawless are actually separate it'll be easier lol. And once I know where they are.

We've had SFS for over 2 years now and the women's C9 pants are 10x easier to find now that none are folded (was always a jumbled mess) and most of them have one of those three labels. I just pick though all of the hangars of the size I need and if it's the right label, I'll stop and check the DPCI. It takes at most 90 seconds to check all of them this way.

We had a 6x10' area right behind our desk that had a Z-rack and 4ft shoulder hangs for empty hangers and then we could slide 3 carts in for sorting. It was nice to hide from guests but during the holidays we would all weep from shoveling stuf in and out.:):(

My store is similar. We have 5 carts in ours though. We switch an empty cart in and take the carts out. But yea, it's annoying during busy times because you're in and out. But we're testing these new rolling rack things with a basket type thing on the bottom (like a mini z rack, but there's no z). It's a million times worse now because when they fill up no one wants to do the work of moving them out. And the basket on the bottom fills up and grows up super tall so you can't even use the whole lower tier of the rack thing.

We don't have carts in ours. We have two looong shoulder hangs where we divide up hanging reshop by department. Then we have giant plastic bins, four for RTW, three for mens, etc. We also keep supplies back there like fixtures and signing. Our daily break schedule/zone assignments are also back there for the closing shift. We have room for one cart behind the fitting room desk and also have storage out there for smaller stuff like tags, rubber bands, extra paper for taking phone messages, the little tag gun things, and so on.

Hey, general softlines/brand TMs question: Do you guys clear out any clothes hanging in the backroom regularly? or is it packed sometimes but not always?

My store does not have brand tms, but we don't deal with the clothes hanging in the backroom at all (if there are any, generally we don't backstock hanging). Flow takes care of all that.

We don't backstock hanging either, but stuff that doesn't fit out gets thrown up and flow isn't there to fill the floor aside what comes off trucks. Makes sense to me that softlines TMs should be looking at that regularly to fill their area.

Not a Softlines TM, but I will say that the bars above our main backroom aisles are almost always packed with "backstock."

SFS gets some of it out. Pricing takes stuff down when it goes clearance. Our main daytime softlines TM will sometimes pull a bunch of stuff down, but she rarely has the time. And when enough space is cleared out, the flow TL usually throws up a few more z-racks of stuff because they need them for the unload.

We are getting so much freight , it is asinine...
Why do we need 25 size 12 of the same pair of pants for boys ?
Or 41 size L of the same pjs ???
Enough already !!!
There is so much remerchandizing I can do ...

I noticed swim coming off our last few trucks. TL said its on the next RTW adjacency after Christmas. Seriously? We're not in the South or California or anything like that. I don't get it.
