Does anyone know approximately how many hours a team leader is expected to work per week? Is it like a minimum of 32 or something? Also, has anyone had the experience of being an Assets Protection Team Leader? I've been with Target for almost six years and just got my bachelor's degree in Business. I am attending online grad school in January and will be going through that until December 2013. What's driving me nuts is that while I love working at Target, it feels like I should be higher up the food chain at Target. I'm an entertainment brand specialist and have felt that I'm holding too much back. While I give school first priority, I feel like I should be making more money. However, I'm not the biggest fan of managing people. Would the APTL position give me more responsibility as an individual and not have to worry about managing my own team and giving interview? Our APTL just left three weeks ago and I think his job was relatively easy. If anyone can give me any advice, I'd appreciate it!

I wouldn't go for TL with that attitude in mind really... If your store is going by best practice then you shouldn't be really applying for a certain TL spot! You apply for TL and they decide where you would be a best fit at (even if that means moving people around)... Which means you should be wanting to do it to develop yourself into a "leader" which means managing people!

Only position I can think of that may suit you is APL (Assets Protection Leader), lower volume stores have those and it means you're the only AP staff in the building besides whatever support help you get from the IC. Or maybe SFT? Honestly, I have to agree with Rock Lobster, if you don't want to lead people, why do you want to be a Team Leader?

Apply for the job. Spot maybe waiting for you to apply. In ap, you have to have a lone wolf attitude. So that, you can stay ahead of the bad guys. Spot will help you work on your leadership development & training. My etlap would love to have me on his team. I say to him, sometimes it is better to have someone on the outside of ap, looking in. I have gather alot of intel for him. I laughed when he asked me about some weird stuff, I told him in great detail on what areas were his weak spots. Those areas have been corrected now.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone! As for me wanting to lead people, I really do intend to do that. However, I'm rather shy and I'm more of an independent force than anything else. I'm a huge team player. When I'm given team members to complete a product for an ETL, I am able to that successfully. Since my store is low-volume, I would be the lone wolf. I'm pretty sure I'll apply.

However, does anyone know what the minimum required hours are for a team leader (especially an assets protection one)? Would it be possible to work just four days a week (up to 10-hour shifts)? Also, my store is paygrade N15 for APTL...what would that be in comparison to the N9 paygrade job that I have now?

Yep 32 hours is the min... The standard raise from N9 to N15 would be probably around $3 more (somewhat negotiable)
