Let me start this by saying I really enjoy Target and really love the culture and team members in my store. The professionalism has been second to none and because of the hard work of my team members, I was recognized by someone from Region recently.

The truth is I'm expecting a offer from a great company from where I'm currently living and if th offer is what I expect it to be (100k)...I will accept.

This company is currently on the rise and has been in business since the late 1800's. I'll be an equivalent of a DTL for my area and I get my weekends. They also expressed to me they would pay for my MBA.

I have some guilt over this. I just ended my training last month and they really like me. However, Im looking out for myself and family...I'll have an opportunity to move up fast and yes...the pay and weekend offs are a big motivating factor for me.

So my question...I plan on typing and handing in my two week notice on Tuesday once I accept the offer. My probation period ends tomorrow as well...will they allow me to work my last two weeks or will they just let me leave?

Be nice but they would fire you without thinking. Go. They might, they might not let you work the two weeks, its only a courtesy for them to find someone new, if they want to short hand themselves its their problem not yours.

I did my final interview last week with the regional manger and VP. I was notified on Friday that I get an offer...so I will leave if tge offer is as good as they boasted in the interview.

I just left the Army and I have enjoyed my time at target...but this is a great opportunity. I just have not ever had to provide a two week notice before.

As others have said go and don't feel bad about it. You have to do whats right for you and your family. You served in the Army and I am sure you were away from them due to deployments etc....take the new job and enjoy the weekends with your family....you deserve it .

Run - don't walk - screaming into the night.
When an exec announces their 2 weeks, several things can happen: your peers may start treating you like shit (after all, you're going someplace better & many are stuck with spot), your performance may start being picked apart until they have a reason to performance you out sooner (matter of pride for spot to give you the bum's rush), they may deem you a security risk (because you won't have anything to lose) & just ask for your keys right there so they can clear the deck for a new candidate.
But again, ASANTS.
Good luck & fair farin'.

Well, I'll give everyone an update tomorrow. Again, I like target...but this company is aggressively pursuing me and the pros outweigh the cons :)

I used to be intensely loyal to Target as well. Hey they're a decent company to work for if you're starting out, and its a fun place to shop. But don't ever think that Target will have your back, they will do what's in their best interests.

I suggest you do the same, you shouldn't shorthand yourself in life since you *might* be inconveniencing a multi-billion dollar corporation who will just hire any random person to replace you ;)

You may work your two weeks or they may just say your done get out. Seen it go both ways. Mostly they cut you loose because they are afraid you will lower morale by talking about why you are leaving. As you have barely been with the company you have not been around long enough to complain about much so I would expect they would have you stay your two weeks.

@LTarmy0416 - that was quick! Just joking. Don't feel bad. Transitioning can be tough but you have to do what's best for you and your family. I gave notice and worked a month after notice. They didn't collect my keys until my last day.

We had another ETL quit about 2 weeks after training ended. They let her finish the 2 weeks. Some stores will give you the option to work the 2 weeks or not.

Great news! Glad to hear you have found a good opportunity. Take it and don't worry about hurting Target's feelings. They'll live on for now.

at one time target was the place to work at we were constantly busy ( i worked in a high volume store) things were great then bob ulrich left the company stinehoffil (sp) came in and he started to rip apart all kinds of departments getting rid of specialists was one of them. then more recently just deciding hey lets do canada but not research or spend the time to figure out how it will work logistically. with alaska and hi they were able to make it work but not canada. and then the massive target breach. now its minor things like the lilly pulitzer line which sold out in minutes online and in stores beacuse people were so quick to sell on the web for a higher profit when the ones who really just wanted to be able to purchase stuff from the line for there own self. they had this amazing dress i wanted but it was part of the plus size online only and by the time i even woke up 6am everything was sold out.

i hope target can survive these times and come out of it or else in a few years 5-10 we will be seeing targets closing there doors for ever.

good luck on the new position

Don't feel bad. Go for what's best for you and yours! You might work your last two weeks or not. That's kind of a toss up depending on your district.

Do whats best for you and your family. I don't know if you will be working your last two weeks or not but either or it doesn't matter. if you get the job make like the Kolaghan and dash dash dash.

do what's best for you. Target doesnt give a shit about you if it goes against what's best for them.

It was fast...the offer came out of no where and they swung for the fence. They are writing the offer now and I'll sign it...then give my two weeks. I do like the team and the culture...but as it has been laid out well on this thread...this is purely business!!!

My recommendation would be to leave on good terms with everyone so if you are ever in need of a job again you have a door back in. I've seen a few peers leave for other companies and life happens and they look to come back. Those that left on good terms (fulfilled their two weeks etc) were usually welcomed back. Those that left on bad terms are labeled as non-rehireable. Just my two cents!
