But it's still not enough to live on &, depending on their age, they may not have any health benefits since spot took away retirees' health coverage.
Best hope is to retire & find another job to supplement retirement.
I think what @Hardlinesmaster was saying is that instead of just quiting or resigning, before getting another job, @TargetWhore4Life should leave by retiring. They have the needed years worked, and if they have worked more than 1000 hours last year they should be able to retire from Target thereby keeping their 10% TM discount and receive a gift card after a couple of months for their service. Also, use up as much sick, personal, and vacation time as possible. TargetWhore4Life can then get another job after taking Target for everything they are owed.
 
If you retire, do you get to keep the insurance at employee rates or do you lose them because COBRA costs will be so astronomical that you won't be able to afford them?
 
Even if you can afford the COBRA rates there is a time limit, Im pretty sure you can only keep the COBRA insurance for 18 months so you might as well find some type of insurance as soon as you retire.
