I stole this from Reddit cuz ... i'm not original. Consider it a return-exchange, you have to say Yes!

What does your STL/ETL-HR/ETL-??? do to help improve your store's/team's morale?

thats funny.. boost morale.. they are coaching anyone who is negative at my store.. apparently as i learned today.. anyone who is too positive also..

Just yesterday I received the following card in the mail from our ETL-HR.

"Thank you for being extremely positive and friendly to our guests and team. You are very supportive and open to anything! I really appreciative to have you on the team."

Never mind that last sentence made no sense, but it's the thought that counts. After receiving no vibe cards in February and feeling very unappreciated by pretty much the entire world, this meant a lot to me. I don't know if she knew how badly I needed to hear this, but it did wonders for my soul.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't need vibe cards or recognition. I have never once used a vibe card to buy anything in our store, I just throw them away rarely reading them. I think I've written maybe 3 vibe cards since the vibe started because I just don't have the time. I'd rather spend that time helping where I can.

I help just about every single work center every day when I'm caught up with carts. If Guest Service is backed up with damages (especially on freshness Friday), I'll mow through processing damages for the GS TM while they handle returns. If the food ave, guest service, the lanes are backed up, I'm there. If there is a spill, I'm there. If reshop is overflowing and my carts are full. I knock out a cart or two of reshop if I'm not needed at the lanes or elsewhere to cover a break. If the girls at Starbucks needs help lifting heavy boxes on to storage shelves, I lend a hand. If a call button goes off, I'm there to at least clear it.

I guess I can understand the vibe means something to some people, but a simple thank you with a friendly smile from my fellow team members is all I need. I do it because it's my job, I like the people I work with, I know we're all spread thin, and I just don't like standing around. I chit chat with all TM's all the while doing something somewhere. Makes the day go faster too if you stay busy. Anyway, I just think the vibe and recognition are overrated. A simple thank you from the team member is sufficient without having to have it announced for the entire team at my store during a huddle or having it posted on the vibe card wall that nobody at my store ever reads anyway.

We didn't have one until our new ETL-HR came on board. Before that, it had been discussed, but the then ETL-HR wanted to make everything cost like 200 cards.

Treat TMs with dignity and respect.
I was going to say give them the hours and pay they need to survive but that comes from Spot.

The problem with this suggestion is that many of them are too young and inexperienced to have a grasp on what it takes to do that and handle the job they are given.

Attempts to improve moral? No idea. They could stop with that team lead speak, though. Some of these people forget how to speak to humans when Target removes their testicles during leadership training.

My store doesn't really do much (if anything). Our morale isn't all that bad, and most of us on dayside get along. Overnight is a different story.

Attributing work to the TM that actually did the work improves morale greatly. We had an SLTL who passed her work onto other people and proceeded to take credit for the work. It was rather bad.

We have some redcard stuff but nothing for overall morale, which is pretty damn low right now

They feed us. Sometimes its sandwiches or fried chicken from albertson's, other times its cereal or fruit and cookies.
Some etls will use a hula hoop or do push ups for who over gets the most red cards in an hour. A lot of people who volunteer to come in on days off will get Starbucks or something from food ave.

My bosses aren't bad at all. Most of the time lol.

I wrote my team an appretiation letter and they loved it! The one who loved it the most was my etl-ap. She loved it so much she shared it with the other etl's. I got a lot of positive comments from the team for that.

When my ETL is mad at me, she doesn't talk to me. That's the best morale booster there is!

Can I borrow her? When mine is mad at me (which is often), she won't leave me alone.......

There is nothing in this world I would want more than to give you my ETL. If I didn't work opposite her I would have transferred by now.

It's weird how everyone wants to give up their etl. I never want to give up mine. She is so sweet and looks out for me like a mother. 🙂
