It's usually the GSTL/GSA but it depends on the store.
Some stores assign a cashier to a certain register for their entire shift; ours send them whichever side they're needed on.

We have to ask the GSTL/GSA which register we're to go to. The only exception is one cashier who's been here forever and always goes to 'her' register.

Only one set of lanes in my store... We stagger the cashiers as they come on. When I'm setting up breaks, I try and have a TM who's just clocking in "Tag Out" with one who needs a break, then re-adjust my pattern as needed, or open express lanes.

That's how we do it at my store. A (most of the time) never ending tag out game.
