Here's what you do for discontinued gift cards. You can just toss them. It doesn't get inventory so no real shortage is created if you don't defective them out. You will just be wasting your time if you defective them out.

The most AP should do is try and verbally deescalate the situation if possible and call law enforcement as needed. They really shouldn't get involved. It's too much of a liability issue for Target unless someone's life is at risk.

If you are certain its return fraud denied the transaction. Make sure you offer receipt lookup and/or asks when/where they purchase it to interrupt the subject's response. Also, swipe the subject's ID and pretend they hit their return limit or say the system isn't allowing return without a...

@LadyCynide The appropriate thing is report it to AP/HR ETL. There should be camera footage of this incident if this happened in the parking lot. Therefore you have proof and can take legal action if you wish. I advise you to keep this between you and AP/HR ETL.
