HR has been handing out forms where you can donate money out of your paycheck to a charity or something. Does Target get a tax write off for doing it this way? Am I better off donating directly to a local charity?

Can they hold it against you if you don't donate/participate? I was literally hounded about this all shift. Nothing against United Way although I'm not sure they give a good enough % to actual charitable causes but I really hate feeling pressured to participate.
