What is the hold up with adding modern PO's to the external damage process?? We keep getting told that it will get fixed but it's been months and no change. Basically we aren't getting credit for processing modern PO's. Is this a headquarters thing or what? Seems like someone isn't doing there job.

What is a "modern" PO?

What is a "modern" PO?
I believe the only difference from a DC standpoint is that receivers can’t add an item to a modern PO. Too many people were adding stuff to random POs from different vendors (only the dept had to match) so HQ added a fail-safe so that couldn’t happen.
There is probably more to it logistically/systematically, but that’s the only change on our end afaik.

Ah okay thank you for the explanation.
So IB guys sometimes would recieve something under the wrong PO as a short cut or something along those lines?
Or is it more that people were accidently recieving product ok the trailer associated with the PO that was not actually a part of the order?

A modern PO has a source code of 1000 and is only 6 digits versus 7 digits with other PO's and is used by vendors when adding last minute products onto trailers. Yes it is supposed to be fail safe but not always the case. The problem we have is that when processing external damage, we use a link called External Damage Process. With modern PO's, they don't show up in that process so we don't get credit for processing that freight. We were told months ago that they would be added but we are still waiting.

I’m going to pretend I understand this

Yes, to both. TMs can add any item to any PO so long as the department matches, even if they’re from different vendors. So if an item pops up “not on appt”, and they don’t have the PO number readily available, they’ll just add it to a random PO that’s on the trailer that happens to be the same dept. rather than call someone to find the actual PO. By making the source code 1000 for the PO, nothing can be added, it’ll error code with “dept doesn’t match source”, forcing the TM to call a problem solver.

Was it ever fixed in the first place? I remember it being an issue years ago when they first rolled out the damage process, and being told “they’re working on it”, just like the system errors trying to manually build a predistro carton. So at this point, I would just assume it never will be, then if it ever does get fixed you can be pleasantly surprised.

TMs here always call for item not on appt. Kind of worrying that anyone can just add to random POs like that, won't it result in vendors getting paid incorrectly in the end and need to be untangled later?

Yup. That’s why I assume modern POs have the 1000 source, that way only HQ can add an item to them.
They don’t really teach TMs much nowadays, and problem solvers are faster to respond to calls than problem area was (just due to workload), so the problem is resolving itself over time.
