I just got promoted to electronics from softlines sales floor and got a $1.89 raise....is that normal because my HR team is freaking out about how this happened....

Sounds like specialists pay. Why would they freak out, they are the ones who put in the paperwork?

What is so special about electronics that warrants a 1.89 raise?

Electronics is normally $0.50 above base pay. They probably think someone keyed it incorrectly.

Why is there a raise at all? What makes electronics different than other jobs at Spot?

Electronics is essentially a more specialized version of salesfloor. We're key holders (while on the clock) for the department, are expected by the guests to have more than just basic product familiarity and be able to recommend a certain electronics item based on each guest's situation, often do our own pulls and backstock, have more of a requirement to focus on AP and PMRs, flexing, label maintenance, vendor/rep interaction, do the entire electronics ad each week, set up and take down (with no extra hours for it, in my store) and in most stores, have to manage all this while having regular salesfloor tasks like CAFs and strays for that side of the store heaped upon us as well. Oftentimes there is only one of us at a time and the LODs use us as an excuse not to put salesfloor people on that area of the store.

So, the other TM's jobs aren't as important... I see.

I didn't say that, my point was that at least for the electronics TMs at my store, their duties seem to encompass a larger breadth and a tad more depth (in terms of product knowledge) than your normal Salesfloor TM which may have led to Spot giving Electronics their own pay rate.

I guess I can see it. Personally, I think a CA should make fiddy cents more just because of the code browns/yellows and working outside in the (around here) intense heat.

CAs should make more than 50c more base. I always argued they should start at 950. (8 base) A great CA always goes unnoticed, and the awful ones make your day miserable.

It's also a lot more work than people realize if they haven't done the job.

Damn straight - I love it. Everyone else hates it..

I've been there nearly one year and every single CA trainee eventually quits.

My HR TL said that she keyed in that I was to get a .75 cent raise but whoever else keyed it in after they reviewed me gave me a $1.89 raise so they're trying to find out why that is.

I would just not mention it again (to anyone at your store) and hope they forget.

I had something similar happen with my new TL pay but not surprised because our DTL is a flake. Her nickname is actually Snowflake (we don't include the first part which is "special") but she's smart as hell just no common sense. She had no idea they were hiring for electronics when I saw her for my final interview, told a ship to store internal hire that he wasn't getting a pay raise and I constantly ask her how many animals MOSES took on the ark and no matter how many times I repeat this riddle she always says two of each. I thought that random 10 cents tacked on to my new wage was weird.

If I were interviewing someone, I would ask them who the Vice President of the United States is. If they can answer it correctly, I would give them an extra $.50 an hour. Most people in my store, including Team Leads, have no idea who our VP is.

It's Barack Obama right?

Ha I kid.

Even better, what is the name of your congressman or woman?

Nah, you had it right. I not gonna sugarcoat it but that's whole reason why there are different pay rates
In order of importance, it goes
Logistics(Flow/BR/Instocks/Plano/Reverse Log/Flex Full/PMT) - Most simple reason is that they get the product to the floor. Can't sell what isn't there. Period.

Next is Cashiers/Guest Service While the workers themselves might more expendable (sorry, but just about every position in the store can run a register) the fact is, someone needs to finalized the sale.

Next is a combination of Market/Electronics/Hardlines and Softlines. This is where target as a whole makes the most money. The need TMs to keep pushing the pulls and showing guest where they can find what they need.

Somewhere in Limbo are the specialty TMs (cosmetics/Signing/brand TMs ) They keep areas brand and such. There's usually only one TM per store for that though so that TM themselves will be pretty valuable

Sorry to say, and I've been there, the lowest on the totem poll is CA. The fact is, literately every single TM in the store can go outside and grab a cart, It sucks because at times, the CA really has a shitton to do but that's the way it is. When push comes to shove, most TM can clean up a spill and the Leaders can deal with the other stuff like bio waste

Like I said before, one time during a snow day, a ton of TMs called out and everyone was short. They started arguing about who's job was more important and while the STL stressed that we were all "one team", he also noted that if only 2 TMs showed up to work for the entire day one would go on the lanes and the other would go to the backroom.

Since my favorite congressman was gerrymandered out of my district, I can't call my current rep by name without spitting on the ground.

At least you don't have a crazy old man who people will keep voting for even if he showing up for work without his pants.

Well can somebody explain how this could have happened....how does the whole process go and could this actually be correct????

It's not that hard. Every team member who gets promoted is processed by HR with a universal change request form. On the form it asks for new rate of pay. Someone probably keyed it in wrong on the form.

My HR TL said SHE put the correct new rate of pay but when she checked it was completely different than what she put. What I'm asking is who does it go 2 next after the store's HR team sends it up?
