Just curious if anyone knows if GSA and CO team members are the same pay grade? It sure seems like the same stress except the CO has a concentrated 3-hr version every day.

I am not a GSA. But I do CO 5x a week. I am paid N03 wages (as a cashier)

I don't see the stress though. Once you learn it it is really easy. It's like driving. Hard to learn. But I drove to work today without thinking about it.

I get to drink my coffee. Listen to the radio. Not deal with guests. I'm not complaining in the least.

I do CO 3 days a week myself and I still make the same as a cashier. Like COextraordinaire says it is very much like driving once you understand what you are doing it is not too bad. the only difference for ours is we don't have a radio and we cant have food or drink in with us (I wouldn't want to spill coffee over the money or computer)

If I'm not mistaken, the cash office specialist was eliminated a long time ago and was combined with the GSA role. You might have some old-timers who were around when cash office was a specialist position, but otherwise it's usually GSA's that are responsible for the cash office. ASANTS, though, so having a cashier or sales floor team member in 239 isn't unheard of. Arbitrarily speaking, anybody can do cash office.

yea at my store it is only me and two other TMs who do CO on a regular basis. the GSAs don't have the morning availability to do CO but they do know how to do it if need be.

I'd only do CO on my rotating weekends, and one weekday morning when our regular TM for the CO wasn't available

My store remains in the dark ages I suppose with only two people working the CO; they asking me if I was interested. Thanks to everyone for your responses.

I agree with HLM. It was definitely the workcenter I looked forward to being in.

Oh yeh.....a pocket of Zen in the red & white madhouse.
Ohmmmmmmmmmmm.

I'd take the position. It's like you don't even know an entire store is going on...
We're allowed to have the radio, have a snack and/or drink...I even bring my phone in there. Don't really use it but sometimes I get a text from my hubby or kid(s). Also, we have a small heater in there because for some reason in the winter, it's like the walls just radiate freezing coldness.
This 1.5 hour is the BEST part of my day!
It is not stressful at all once you know what you're doing. Do it the same way every day and you won't be confused.

Go for it! CO is 90% peace and 10% annoyance when your numbers don't add up and you can not figure out why or some other occasional thing happens. :)

I wish it only took me 1.5 hours to do it. The seasoned CO person takes 3 hours with no problems, no cash from the bank to count, longer with problems.. I'm getting there. Hate it when LOD lets me in closer to 8 then 7, and when the night before was very busy and there are 2 days of cash from the bank to count. Does anyone else have a hate - hate affair with the money counting machine? I swear, the money from the bank is coated with something, because I am fighting with the money counter all the time. Many times I give up and count it by hand. There are just so many times you can feed the 5.00's through and see den2 - no matter what setting you put the machine on..

@redeye58 - how's that for knowing what I'm talking about? :);):)

the bank sends the tissue paper like 1s so often. I was so annoyed and ready to throw the cash counter machine against the wall!

Try cleaning the rollers and see if that helps. Search your office to see if there is the CD showing you how to do this.

Trying to explain here... Open the door by pressing the black tabs on the left and right. Blow a little canned air if you have it.

You will see silver rollers. When you spin them with your finger you will likely see them caked with gunk. I don't have a more sophisticated way to do this, but I roll them and scrape the gunk off with my fingernail.

I do this when I start getting lots of errors while counting bills. It usually does the trick. However these machines get gunked up after awhile anyways and need to be taken apart and refurbished. About every 12-18 mos we turn ours in for being broken and they send back a "new one"

Yeh, I've scraped off the rollers a lot.
Especially after high-count days (& LOTS of old bills).
Once you've scraped 'em clean, follow it with an alcohol wipe (like they use in first aid kits).
If you've got a stack of crisp, new, fresh-off-the-presses bills, twist/flex them & run your thumb down the end to separate them.

I do clean the rollers. a few times during my shift. I wish we could get a new one.. when I bring it up to the other person who works in there - the one who thinks she owns the room - she says we don't need a new one. She even makes us save the straps at night and reuses them the next day until they pretty much disintegrate.

Bring up the cash counter issue with your PMT. He may have a pressurized air system to clean it out more thoroughly than those nasty cans of air, or he can help you get a replacement.

I confess, I do reuse the straps because it saves a little time and resources.

I nag him enough about fixing things at the registers and replacing light bulbs.. He walks the other way when he sees me.

I don't get the counting money from bank part...?
When our cash comes in from the bank we just put it in the safe. We don't break it down or anything not until we need say, a strap of $50 in ones or need to break up the $500 in fives.
What are y'all doing with the cash??? lol
And yes, MANY times I've wanted to throw the bill counter across the room! I can count by hand faster that it can a lot of the time!

We always counted the change order.
I think that the most I ever had happen was a couple of packages of ones coming out over or under by one because of (of course) new bills but we always counted.
