As an ETL or SrTL, have you added tm's not scheduled to the grid?

I have seen it many times at Spot, a tm shows up and is not scheduled to work. They are not covering for anyone, just needs and wants to work. Leadship from what I've seen has always allowed them to work. Has anyone ever seen someone get turned away and sent home??

Yes,many times, but it depends mostly on who you are and the relationship with who is making the decision.
I so agree. If you're one of the non global Tm's, I'm guessing you would be sent home, but if you can do many things, you probably would be kept.

When I was a tm, I would do this a lot. I'd go in after school, tell them I had red and khaki in the car and ask if anyone was needed.

Probably 70% of the time I worked.

One time I was scheduled off on the schedule in the wall. Well they didn't that in the computer. So on that day, they called me asking where I was. I said home cause I had off. They told me I didn't. I said my name was on the schedule for that day. They said it was and is. I didn't take a pic like usual so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and figure I might of fucked up. So I asked if they still wanted me to come in. They said yeah.

Well when I get there they schedule never changed on the wall and it still said I have off

People here give me shit for not caring yet shit like this happens to people at my store constantly.

This is why I don't pick up or take any shift unless the other backroom guy needs a day off.

Fuck HR. Just say you need me to come in, don't lie

If there's a project that needs bodies, sometimes they'll let someone come in/stay.
If someone came in hrs late because they 'read the schedule wrong' they often will be allowed to stay xx hrs later.
If payroll is tight, nope -send 'em home. Likewise they won't replace call-outs.

As a PA, the Signing Specialist, If I find my way coming in on an "off-scheduled" arrival. That is what I will call it. I have not been denied once,

Never forget the pic lad

I tend to have my shift extended or called-in fairly frequently but the only times they'll turn me away is if there's no room on payroll or if keeping me on shift would mean I'd be getting overtime.

Other than that they'll usually keep me around whenever they can afford to.

There have been times where I thought I started at a certain time and accidentally came in 4 hours early. Sometimes I was able to clock in early, there were also times I couldn't.

Reminds me of another time, I was shopping in my store on my day off, and I got a call on my phone asking if I could come in to work. Lol.

It's not the worst idea, if you're looking for more hours. Someone will always be calling out or simply not showing up, and ETLs/LOD will be wanting to fill gaps in coverage.

Calling before going to the store might be better though.

When I dropped a class in college and was too ashamed to tell my parents, I went to spot to kill time in Food Ave. Often times, I ended up actually working. They'd just give me a vest and let me work in jeans.

When that happens I see the tm get punched in probably 80% of the time. Usually if they're not its because of hours or they're habitual with it (i.e. dropped off early every day, and even then they're sometimes clocked in to help cover callouts). If I lived closer I'd probably try it myself occasionally, but it's not worth the drive to get turned away.

There were times were I would routinely call or walk into my stores in the mornings and ask if there were any available shifts and hours. If there wasn't any need for me, I would proceed with my day off usually hiking the mountains.

Then it would be my luck half the time, a TM would call-in for their shift and I stuck in the wilderness.

I haven't seen TMs show up on a day they were never scheduled, but when hour cuts first hit my store hard (before MyTime) we'd have people coming in who were never told that their shift was deleted and they were always punched in if they wanted to work. Now the mantra is "I'm sorry, you should have checked your online schedule from home!" 90% of the time.

As a Signing Guy I always came in "accidently" When I knew I was more than likely going to receive a Large Pallet. At 4 am, what tyrant would actually turn you down?

Weird to think that someone would show up and hope to be able to work.

People like to try the 'Oh, I thought I worked at 6, not 8.' or 'you guys edited the schedule, it said 6 before' and expect me to punch them in. You can wait in the break room for 2 hours or go home for two hours, don't really care.

My plano team stays weeks ahead, so the sooner to get to a pallet for me, the better for everybody.

A lot of people have legitimate reasons to be in early and that's between you and your TL, I'm more referring to the kids that come in early so they can get 8 hours or leave early.
