COVID-19 Is anyone else's Target enforcing masks?

They sent out district conference call notes today which included our new mask policy. It says we are to educate the guest about our mask policy and offer them one if they don’t have one. We are not to enforce the policy if the guest refuses though. 🤦‍♂️
This will be fun.

It’s for our safety. People are crazy and I’m not getting punched in the face over a mask. That’s AP’s job :p

In case anyone is wondering but company policy is to ask the guest to wear a mask. If they refuse, we offer one to them. If they refuse, we let them know about drive up or ship to their home. Then if they still refuse....we let it go. It's bad PR and local police will not respond. If the situation becomes escalated to beyond wearing a mask then get AP involved.
What about if there's bad PR because a third person saw the whole thing and blew up because the problematic guest wasn't told to GTFO?

PR works both ways.

Or, anti-maskers use the footage to not wear them in the store: "SEE IT'S NOT EVERYONE!!! I DON'T HAVE TO WEAR ONE IF THEY DIDN'T!!! I KNOW MY RIGHTS!!! (cough-cough-cough)."

Exactly. I feel another LOA coming on. I'm sick of seeing guests and TMs with no masks or masks pulled down. At the very least it should be enforced with the TMs in all areas of the store except for breakroom. I never go in the breakroom anyway so that would not be an issue.

I've been on the brink of having a talk with HR and or SD...maybe I will wait and see what happens after the 1st.

No, what I meant is someone with a mask sees that mess and then starts a major campaign about lax enforcement and Target clearly doesn't want to keep people safe, they don't give a crap about their guests and they will (in localities mandating it) violate the law about enforcing masks because they don't give a crap. Get someone who can yell loud enough, that stance would also be a PR nightmare.

I know what you meant, which is why I began my post with the word "or."

I love Starbucks. Like I really love Starbucks but it needs to be closed until there is no longer a mask mandate. Guests just go buy their Starbucks and walk around the store with their mask hanging down. I just really feel you can’t have both because guests are taking advantage of this.
How can you drink a Starbucks, with a mask on?

That’s my point. Isn’t wearing a mask during a mask mandate more important than the luxury of drinking a Starbucks drink.

Mask on state here. A friend was getting a sandwich at a Subway recently. An asshole barges in front of the line, no mask. Clerk tells him to please wait on line like everyone else. The guy pulls the racist card. Shoving match starts. Customer calls police. Police arrive in a minute. Police escort the idiot out the front door. A privately owned shop doesn't have to serve someone if the customer doesn't follow THEIR rules. If the municipality requires a mask and the shop owner has a sign saying as such they do not have to offer service.

We actually had a guest comment the other day praising Target for finally instituting a mask policy. Guaran-fucking-tee that that guest will complain about guests not being required to wear masks.

Seriously (hard to believe) our two local Targets have been fine. People behaving, TMs all masked up, the stores look good. The market sections have been shopped heavy, maybe a missed delivery? They were out of 97% fat free Honey Baked Ham (1lb pkg)

Masks required in my shop/establishment. (a scenario) An arrogant young buck ManKaren comes in to buy a pack of Widgets. Sign says MASK REQUIRED TO SHOP IN MY WIDGET STORE. I can and will throw the ManKaren out of my store. My sign, my property, my rule. Customer #2 comes in with a nice mask. He's wearing a wedding gown, has a purple wig on, and carrying a little cat. #2 askes for a case pack of 24 Widgets. He is compliant in my eyes, he has a mask, he is not offensive and I love cats. No sign banning pets. ManKaren has no rights in my store, #2 does. My choice.

No e in asks Does anyone go to Planet Fitness and are they enforcing the mask rule?
When I popped my head in last month to cancel my membership everyone I saw had masks. But I didn't look carefully at the exercise machines so the couple people I saw could be a biased view.

That's what I witnessed last week. I'll go on the OFF hours and keep my distance. Saying something to mgmt is a waste of effort and time. I saw a couple of beasts at the deadweights ear hanging like Biden. Dopes.

They definitely will.

There are pro-mask groups on Facebook who list what businesses in their areas have mask rules and cleaning protocols. If a business isn't enforcing a policy they're supposed to have, scads of people flood the owners/corporate with calls and emails about it.
The one I've joined is very pro-positivity and doesn't allow bashing of businesses who lax on policies or just don't have them. But nearly everyone still contacts those places about it.

And it does work. Multiple businesses in my area who didn't have any policies in place decided to do so after that many people wrote/called in.

In regards to ADA:
ADA requires businesses to have reasonable accommodation for guests with disabilities, we offer drive up to shop from the safety of your car.

In regards to HIPAA:
HIPAA only applies to hospitals and healthcare providers.

I wonder what kind of mental gymnastics Trump supporters, who made it known they WEREN'T WEARING A MASK!!!, are going through to reconcile and comply with the fact that Trump now says to wear masks.

It's a bloody relief that he's finally been convinced. Say what you want about his tweet, but if it will sway the naysayers, then yeah, it's a good thing...but it should not have taken him this long to get on the bandwagon. He should have been leading the charge.
