It was announced that new TMs at our store are going to now start out at $10 an hour. Much like the one dollar bump to $9 last year.

Are all stores doing this again this year? As a 10+ year veteran I feel like i'll be getting the shaft two years in a row.

in part because of the state I am in and the area that the store is in the current starting wage for certain team(s) is currently sitting at over $12.00. that was kept as quite as it could have been. and when it leaks out ever now and then the rage and anger from any one that has been there for X amount of time is very evident.

Nearly everyone at my store is getting a $1 raise, including anyone who has worked for 7, maybe close to 8 years. Those of us who are under 6 years got nearly $2 over the last 2 years. Sure, some people are frustrated. But they just got 2 raises that are each about 3 times as much as a normal raise, maybe more. It'd be nice if Target did this differently and gave veterans a little more, but at the end of the day we all have more money in our pockets.

For those of you who are at the maximum for your paygrade, you get a huge benefit of not needing an EX or O on your review to get a raise. For those of you in the 8-12 year range... my condolences. You actually did get screwed on this one. I know it's naive, but my hope is that we'll get better candidates with a higher starting rate. I said that last year and it didn't happen (seemed to get worse...), so idk.

(Note: this mostly applies to stores like mine who were well below $9 before last year.)

the longer you work for Target the more you get screwed over on pay raises. passed a certain point it does not pay to put in any effort to try and do a good job. it is only worth it if you do not do your best but just enough.

Whenever the state minimum wage gets increased, employees that have been there a while get screwed over when their pocket change raises of the few years get cancelled out when new workers being hired make the exact same as them.
It happened to me last year when I was making 50 cents more than the cashier and salesfloor TMs now we all make the same when California raised it to $10 an hour. I asked my TL why it wasn't $10.50, she laughed at me and told me to wait for my review.

Unless you hit the max for your paygrade, in which case you need to get an EX or an O to get any raise at all. Also, you could say that for TMs who just started today; you don't need to work hard every day. You won't make much more by busting your ass. But I find that working hard makes my job more enjoyable because I can look at how much better I made everything. That and I get recognition from my peers, my leaders, my team, and even my guests.

With no rancor- I show up, I bust my ass, I come in early, I stay late. I go the extra mile and Spot will pay the newbies I train more. What's wrong w this picture?
(What's wrong is me staying if I don't get adequate compensation and believe me I won't stay. The ball is in Spot's court this year).

Well, they won't be making more. Just one review's amount less.

I know there's not much that can be done, but I was at least hoping for maybe some extra vacation time or something to fill that void.

best I'll get is one (1) free hot dog from food avenue, if that.

they pretty much …… well I was going to say destroyed our vacation policy which they sorta did, as in they changed it in a rather unpleasant, abrupt and non appealing way, but that would be an inflammatory way to put it, don't want to be the one pouring the gas on the fire.

i'll just state that Target is more likely to take things from us than it is to give us anything. I do admit they try to dress up this shearing away of "benefits" from longer employed team members as something nice and beneficial to us but a subtractive approach to an employee benefits program is not well received for the most part

-- Edit --
a few of the "y" here and there is a good thing and a comma tossed in for good measure

I heard my store is doing the raise to $10 bucks an hour from $9.50 for starting as well.

What is not known is the following factors:

1: Will any veterans get the pay bump of $.50 if they are over the $10 starting pay

2: If this starting pay bump will take effect before the reviews

3: If this starting pay bump will take effect after the reviews

Target SHOULD bump everyone's pay whos' pay iso ver $10 an hour. If they dont, all the hard work everyone put in to get raises over the years was for nothing. There is literally no reason (other than to not get fired) to work hard since our raises wont mean shit when new people will get paid the same amount as us.

Most likely, the base pay bump to 10.00 will only affect those that were earning under that amount. It effectively ensures everyone has the same base pay, but will not do anything if the base pay was already 10 or over. By now, it's going to look like the pay bump is applied after this years merit raises, which would again only benefit those who still make under 10 after the raise. The bump to 10 will mostly benefit those employees just joining target, and do very little for the vets. It sucks, but that's the nature of retail.... keep hiring new people to replace and cover up for the high turnover.

1. Nope. Only people who are below $10 will get anything.

2. It takes effect before the review. If someone is making $9.90, they will get bumped up to $10 and then get their merit raise on top of that.

If you're in a higher paygrade, you should be bumped up to $10 plus the paygrade difference, then your merit raise on top of that. If that doesn't happen, someone in the hierarchy needs to go bye-bye.

That is what happens, assuming you mean that people under the new minimum for their paygrade get bumped up. It wasn't just the minimum pay that got increased. It was every single paygrade. I was making more than $10, but below the new minimum for my paygrade, so I got bumped up to the minimum and then got my merit raise on top of that. I have probably explained this about 10 times over the last few months, but it keeps coming up lol.
