Anybody remember these?

My very first job interview was with Gordman's  Target chose me instead, and here I am years later.

I worked for Sears 1998-2000
The male associate wore shorts with ties, being in electronics I received commission but even then my gut was telling me that the company was dying a very slow death the

There's like one Sears near me and it's in a dead shopping center/mall. I want to say it's the only store left in that area. I walked into it about 6 months ago and literally saw a fully staffed store with about a 10th of the people being actual shoppers. It blew my mind how they're still open.

Here’s a list of 15 retailers that have announced store closings for 2017.

  • American Apparel – all 110 stores closed
  • CVS – closing 70 stores
  • Chico – closing 120 stores
  • Crocs – closing 160 stores
  • Family Christian – closing all of its 240 stores
  • JCPenney – closing 138 stores
  • Kmart – closing 108 stores
  • Macy's – closing 63 stores
  • Office Depot – closing 100 stores
  • Payless Shoes – closing 400-500 stores
  • Radio Shack – closing 552 stores
  • Sears – closing 42 stores
  • The Limited – closed 250 stores in January
  • The Children’s Place – closing as many as 200 stores

Crocs does NOT shock me because who wears those any more?

I really like Macys and JCP but despise Kmart and Sears (to a slightly lesser extent) so I guess it balances out for me. Especially since Sears and Kmart are in a death spiral and Macys and JCP are at least strategically downsizing

Unfortunately, the top people at any corporation see downsizing as a bad reflection on their management of the company. Instead of looking at trends and proactively closing stores, most wait until they have to close them. By that time, the death spiral has already begun and all the closings do is slow down the inevitable.

Lossing our Payless Store, which should help my shoe department. In the short term in may hurt us, due tot he going out of business sale.
