For context, I work as much as possible and I’m very liked at the store I work in. I also worked with my boss to get the shift taken (it’s still posted) and we got it to a later shift than an early one. My problem is this:

I’m in a place 2.5 hours from where I work for the holidays. The snow could be bad over here too, along with some nasty wind and ice. I’m worried that the weather conditions might prevent me from being able to get back for work safely. I’m hesitant to call off though because I’ve called off 3 times in the past 3 months and I don’t want to make it a habit, especially with holidays.

For context, I’ve called off 3 times in the past 3 months, and I planned on going to the shift to avoid calling off more.

However, I am currently 2.5 hours away from the target I work at, and the weather conditions here are not looking good. High winds, ice, and likely snow is the forecast and I’m worried I won’t be able to go to work because of the conditions.

I’ve worked with my boss to try and get the shift covered (it’s posted on mytime), and we were able to push it back into the evening. I’m also very well like by my fellow coworkers and my boss.

Even with all this I’m just wondering if it’s a bad idea or not, or if it’ll get me in enough trouble to be fired, terminated, or put on CA.

If you just started with Spot and you’re seasonal, kiss your job goodbye come January. I’m just being completely honest. Black Friday is the equivalent to “The Super Bowl” for Target 🎯 stores. 🏬 You were essentially hired for this particular day essentially. All the “Being mad cool with my boss” and coworkers is essentially 💩 if you’re not there. Good luck. I hope 🤞🏾 things work out in your favor. I’ve just seen people get terminated for far less….

I’ve been with them for around 6 months and i’m not a seasonal hire. i’m hoping bc if this i’ll be ok?

Making you question your prior call offs, isn’t it? Averaging once per month is a lot, you obviously recognize this and want someone to give you a pass this time. You never know when something truly unavoidable will happen, so it’s best not to play fast and loose with attendance.

Respectfully, I think this is a concern. Presumably you don't normally have a 2.5 hour commute to your Target, you drove 2.5 hours away for Thanksgiving holiday with loved ones and underestimated the risk of severe weather for your return trip last night or early this morning. Your safety is important. Nobody can fault you for wanting to observe Thanksgiving, unless you specifically knew you would be facing truly severe weather conditions. Methinks if you work in retail and are expected to be on duty on Black Friday (which is true of 99% of retail store employees, including myself whose shift starts a bit later today), you might consider not traveling a long distance for Thanksgiving Day when there are specific weather forecasts indicating severe (dangerous) driving conditions.

I don't know your age, your driving history, whether your car/SUV/truck has dedicated winter tires and/or tire chains, and so forth. Spending time with our families is extremely important, sometimes if travel conditions are extremely bad and you must be back to work immediately after the holiday you may need to ask your relatives to take a "rain check" and reconvene for a substitute Thanksgiving get-together when travel conditions aren't so severe and you can schedule an extra day off from work so you aren't so panicked at returning in time to show up for your next assigned work shift.

I sincerely wish you all the best.
