Archived GSA Responsibilities?

GSTL was helping in softlines some today and seasonal. I think doing cash office as well because they weren't around a lot tonight except when it was busy they hopped on express and GSA was in between Food Ave and Guest Service all day.

It sounds like the GSA was scheduled to run the front end and the GSTL was everywhere else (perhaps a SrTL working a LOD shift?). Cash office is generally only done in the morning by GSAs.

Whenever we have overlap like that, usually the person scheduled as GSTL/GSA is running the break grid and front lanes. Additional GSA's (usually scheduled as service desk or cashiers) spend their time semi-offstage doing projects (setting check lane end caps, candy EXF's, repack carts, one spot, etc), cash office, or backing up lanes. Our GSTL's schedule themselves as cashiers so it's easier for them to temporarily go work on all of their fun GSTL stuff.

We all average 35-40 hours a week and rotate GSA/GSTL shifts. We typically will have an opener, closer, and a mid scheduled as a cashier or service desk.

Great post. I'm a GSA at a ulv store. We operate with two gstls and two gsa's. One Gstl is a senior tl and one is just a regular tl. We do well. I get my 32 hours consistently. I work two guest service desk shifts a week and three gstl shifts a week and couple of those are CO shifts as well. When the I'm scheduled at the service desk I usually cover the lanes as well and generally help out when needed. At night I have one hell of a list, I am always scheduled a sales floor zone as well as zoning the front end and maintaining breaks and lunches and keeping the front lanes brand. We don't overlap much at all though, our schedule looks like this : GSTL 7-330 Opening that's with two hours of co and then closer is usually a 3-1030 and sometimes I do 8-430's behind the service desk, I rarely get cashier shifts but have no problem if they throw me one.

Either they just don't like you, or theres more to the story. lol.

And yes... GSA's are effectively "Specialists" for the GS workcenter, so you would attend to any outstanding tasks that may arise. For example: backing up the lanes, service desk, photo, etc. If you have multiple people scheduled as GSA/GSTL at the same time, one of them should be responding to backups/guest requests -- I don't really like how your GSTL said "Act like a GSA".

When we had multi-coverage when I was a GSA, I would float around where needed unless my GSTL needed a break, or to go offstage... At which times they would inform me so that I could maintain my presence at the front of the lanes (and speedweave).

This. It's one thing to be behind the counter when there's no backups and no tasks that need attending. But when you're scheduled as a GSA during double-coverage, it should be perfectly acceptable to be hopping around as needed. Also, in the stores I've worked at, scheduling a GSA as a cashier is usually just a way for the ETL-GE to provide additional coverage for the front without using additional GSTL/GSA workcenter hours. Unless there are back-ups or call-offs, that person is rarely assigned a lane and is instead working on tasks or performing GSTL/GSA duties while the GSTL works on things off stage. This might be a store-to-store culture thing, though.

Yeah I think one of our GSTLs is either an SrTL or ETL tbh. I really feel like my store has a lot of ETLs, but they could just be SrTLs. They even refer to a room next to the supply closet/CO as "[GSTL name here]'s office". I know GSTL/GSA always do CO at close. In the morning said GSTL has been doing CO, as a CA I mostly close though or get weird mid shifts for cashier (love dat 3-7 shift), so I don't see them often. GSTL is LOD at my store sometimes w/ a GSA also on. I think we have a possible 9 different LODs though? Starbucks TL was on the board as LOD the other night.

Rarely have I seen 2 GSTLs/GSAs scheduled at once (maybe around holidays). The head GSTL normally opens, sometimes with a GSA, but they are both chill. GSAs act just like GSTLs imo, do the same stuff from a cashier/CA standpoint. Both GSA and GSTLs help out at Food Ave/Starbucks and SD often. Those areas tend to have 1 person in them with a max of 4 maybe 5 between them at all times.

Hmm, I don't know who you are, but you've got a fantastic name.
