I've seen this at my store. Certain items that are spider wrapped while they are locked up behind glass in the electronics section. Seems like a waste. If they are locked up, they don't need spider wrap.

With the electronics set, you may know if it is a secure case or not. I don't have a problem with it. It is secured, that's what matters to me.

Double merchandise protection is generally frowned upon but I've seen some places that will do something like this but when a guest asks for an item they can walk around the store with it until they're ready to checkout, it also helps reduce incidents where people push out carts full of stuff

Or it was spider wrapped for a previous set and when that set came down they left the wrap on it. So new set, it came out in the batch with the wrap on it, and ain't nobody going to pull it off..

And exactly to let the guest have it until check out, cause depending on what it is you can't force them to buy it right then and there. Like flea treatments for pets. In electronics its a lot easier to do that.

It was probably not in a case during the prior set.

As for being able to hand it to the guest while they are finishing shopping. Our store has a policy where if we have to unlock it for them it has to be purchased/held. We don't hand the item off.

Yup, if I have to get the item I have to check you out right there. Locked peg, lock box, tethered endcap.

We have the same policy. I personally was burned once when I unlocked something (from a peg-hook) for a person in a suit and handed it to him, and found out later that he took the spider-wrap off and walked out. Also why I don't trust anyone.

They either purchase it at electronics, electronics escorts them with item to guest services so it can be purchased or electronics puts it at the service desk until they are finished with their other shopping and checks out everything at the same time. If it's purchased at electronics, a big announcement goes over the walkie that a customer purchased so-and-so item and they doing other shopping or are on their way out of the store.

If im doing a flex and a guest needs a game or ipod, I'll unlock the case and spider wrap it so they can take it upfront if there isn't an cashier in electronics.

Leave the spider wrap/case on it. If the guest is going to walk around with it before checking out, it should have some form of merch protection.

We generally require all locked items to be rung up at electronics, but if it's extremely busy back there, we put video games in the security cases so they can bring them to the lanes and call it out to the GSTL.

I will say the hair straighteners I do hold at guest services, but flea treatments honestly I don't care if they get stolen. I would rather puppy/kitty gets the treatment.
They are a high theft item because they can be easily hidden and then returned later for a high dollar amount, similar to tooth whitening strips and shaving cartridges.

They are not coming back.. We do case them like razors so they have to work to break the cases off.. And in this part of the country fleas are serious. And you can always ask "So how much does your dog/cat weight?" if they don't know send them away.. Flea drops are by weight so if they stumble or don't know? Don't pull them off the peg..

Generally, the merchandise protection policy prohibits the use of "doubling up" on merchandise protection. There aren't supposed to be spider wrapped items in a lock case. If there are, either the TM pulled them from the floor with wrap already on them and didn't bother to remove the wrap due to laziness, or they genuinely don't know the policy. The only time spiderwrap can be used in conjunction with other MP measures is if it's connected to a tether, or if it's on an item on a locking peghook without a hang tab.

Clear that with AP. Spider wrap is stupidly easy to remove if you know how. Handing guests high dollar - high theft items like Ipads and Smart Watches, even if wrapped, from a locking case and letting them walk away without paying for them will be a painful slap on the wrist if they end up getting stolen.

Electronics had a reset not that long ago, so there is still product in locked cases that has the spider wraps. Spider wraps are even easier to remove when flow doesn't know how to apply them correctly.

Our AP-ETL likes to double and triple secure items. It'd ridiculous. I understand the phones being on security pegs, but using the peg clips and wraps on top of that? Hot damn. Same with the fitbits. It looks bad and some morons wrap them too tight and ruin the packaging.

We're a low risk store losing a couple fitbit a week. You better bet those spiderwraps are on tight.

Spot finally figured out the fitbits in sporting goods are being taken faster than sold, the return of locking pegs are back. But, the boosters have figured out how to beat the wraps. There are few YouTube videos on how remove the wrap on a peg.

Oh yeah, we never removed our locking pegs.

It's crazy. I was doing SFQ following the electronics set and it struck me that we have HALF the inventory of product as the planograms call for because of the amount of spiderwrap and locking peg hooks being used. We aren't allowed to put more than one of any Apple product out. The out of stocks for back to college and Christmas is already making me dizzy as I think about it. Is there a way to cheat the SFQ in order to have adequate backstock to fulfill guest needs?

My store got pushed hard on that too. They wanted them removed from the Fitbit salesplanner as well. I told my ETL that was the dumbest set of directions given from someone who never worked in a store before and I would be ignoring them.

I was just told "Ain't nobody got time to remove those peghooks."

Change capacities for things you are limiting on the floor. A capacity of 1 would work for that Apple stuff. Manual CAFs should be regularly dropped during those times too.

Of course. That's what SFQ is. My point is with regard to having adequate stock to meet the needs of the guests during what is considered to be high volume electronics sales periods.
