Our store recently was part if minimum wage increasing. Myself and 2 others workers have been for at least 2.5 years. We all make at least 9.25 an hour. We have a newer employee who has been at the store 5 months, in the 5 months he has been given a 1.00 raise. He has multiple coachings for different things. He pretty much just screws around instead of working. He now makes 9.25 an hour as well. How did this employee get a 1.00 raise in 5 months? I know that only part of it is from minimum wage increase.

Welcome! Wage is based on what state you live in, I believe. We do have a thread covering that topic at great length. Also, be careful about discussing wages, spot policy says you are not suppose too.

Good news! The new handbook specifically states that employees are free to discuss their pay. It's somewhat written in legalese, I'm sure it's the result of some lawsuit.

It's against the law for any company to tell you that you cannot discuss wages. Of course no company wants you to know that, but that's how it is.
