Archived Self-Checkout coming soon!!

I never see them being a problem at grocery stores or other stores you just need someone to watch the area at all times and never leave the area that is how it is handled at some grocery stores.

OK, this will officially be my sixteenth attempt to comment on this thread since its inception ( take a hint? Oh, no thank you!!! )

You'd THINK they wouldn't be problematic....

As I have previously tried to state, they can be for near innumerable reasons.

( Said as someone who regularly ran self-checkouts in a grocery store for two years. )

Incidentally ( and please, please, please forgive me if this has already been covered-I will admit I haven't read all through the thread as of late ), does anyone else out there have experience at Spot or otherwise with running one of these?

And if you did, did you, like me, feel as if you were running a preschool for adults, or some sort of rehabilitative exercise for the institutionalized who were about to be reintroduced to society, no doubt with negative results?

Does anyone else foresee, when payroll is tight, stores sending all the cashiers home early and letting the GSTL just run the self-checkouts for the last few hours of the day :p

Yep, I could.
I could then see an uptick in scammers during that time frame & the GSTL getting overrun with multiple problems while others walk out the door with bagfuls.

This. There will always be that guest with the overflowing cart of groceries and a hundred coupons that won't work. But wait, how will the GSTL be able to close the registers when they're stuck watching the self-checkouts?

Is there going to be a national rollout of these self checkouts to stores or are they still in pilot mode? My store definitely needs to install these. Is there anywhere to find out more info about which stores may be getting them? We are a high volume GM store with p-fresh.

I think the self checkouts are great, but in the long run don't you think that would hurt the store? We don't have our team members asking for red cards and we don't have that one on one guest-team member relationship.

For me I would be worried about dishonest guests passing stuff to themselves. Example, scan one dvd, put 2 in bag.

If this machine is like the one they have over at CVS then, the machine will prompt you saying that you've placed an extra item in a bag, or that the scanned product isn't in the bag. Also at my local CVS they have one TM overlooking four self-check-outs.

Having a TM to watch the self check-out lanes all the time? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha..........You're all kidding....right?

Our store uses the plastic handles all the time....they're great for tons of items... household paper products, Peperridge Farm gallon size fish cartons, small appliances...anything that weighs less than fifteen pounds.
In fact, we have guests who will ask for handles if the cashier doesn't put one on....which usually works well....until you have a bunch of weeks where you don't have any handles!

Here's my issue with people overlooking the front end; they don't care! Even with BOB and LISA people still let guests go through. The fact is, the person "overseeing" these self checkouts, probably won't care. That's one more thing I don't need to worry about. I already need to deal with the fitting room, which wasn't an issue until these hour cuts. Plus electronics, which doesn't seem to care. Might as well lump the whole salesfloor into it since they never guest service someone I'm watching, even though they are doing a " service walk". So why do people think self checkouts are "smart"? A public view monitor won't do shit as we have multiples throughout the store that don't make a big enough dent in shortage. In fact; a neighboring store has had the same lady push out carts full of merchandise over the last week, yet these measures don't prevent shit through self checkout. There's probably a ton more theft from these things they are missing. At lest a cashier can call this shit out.

About time, Target catches up with the times :p

I do feel bad, I mean, I know this is just a excuse for them to give Cashiers less hours, but, d***it it's handy when you just need one or two things. Or when the Line at FA is a 20 people long and you just wanna pay for the frozen sandwich from the cooler..

F no.

Besides the fact, the some stores (low risk) will completely lose there Merchandise Protection Tagging, I really don't see these machines as much of a big deal..

Seriously, Things could be a lot worse.

Our store has those. I think most if not all of them in Canada do, except ours are always broken.

I was in the store with a friend and was having an issue with the pinpad at the checklane I was checking out of. When the GSTL arrived my friend noticed the self-checkouts, said something about them, (can't remember what) and when I said "...when they work" the GSTL just laughed hard.

I hope the store I go to gets these. It got rid of express lanes 4 years ago. I don't care if there is only one person in front of me, if I have 1 thing and they have a cart full I'm going to be annoyed. Happened all the time while trying to buy something on break. It's why I always brought lunch.

It happened like a week ago, too. I reported a post or two. I'm just really happy I was alone in my bedroom when I saw (both times) and not on the bus or at work.

Sorry bout that, we try and catch em as fast as we can but sometimes they do slip by.
So far we've been pretty lucky, knock on wood, that there hasn't been to much porn.
Just keep up the good work of letting us know the minute you see it, much appreciated.

I guess I missed the excitement. /sarcasm

I try to report such posts whenever I see them, but we recently had a store emergency (my STL even allowed OT!) and I've been working a lot the last few days, so I haven't been on here much.
