I had A LOT of people who had already hit their no receipt return limits when they were trying to make returns today. I had one man ask me what he was supposed to do with the items I wouldn't return.

Same here and then they claim they have never used their ID before. Or people acting surprised that we need their ID to process a no-receipt return.

I tell people straight up 'craigslist', donate or throw it away. Maybe with a touch of don't steal it lol

Several people who swore they had never done a return using their ID.

Maybe keep the paperwork so this is just a lesson for you.

Not really a Christmas return but one lady had altered one of the numbers on her military ID and didn't want me to hold it to take a closer look because he kid "just threw up on it"

This dude today tried to return an xbox, claimed when he gave it to his son, there was no xbox in it.

dude. what. Dude. WHAT. And I was LOD.

I had AP review. It was brought up to GS by a TM because the dude was exchanging something in return for the xbox. So you have at minimum 3 TMS touching this box before arriving in the hands of the guest. And the guest waits 2 weeks after purchase to realize there's no xbox in the box??? Bull honkey. I spoke with guest relations 3 times today about this dude because he kept calling them. I finally had AP escort him out because he was getting uppity and loud and rude. BYE

So he bought an empty box and happily took it home?

Lol try to come up with a better excuse sir.

how many stores are hitting the k1 screen to continue when someone has max'd their ID?
That's a common misinterpretation. While yes, it is true that the "insert most commonly used debit/credit card" screen does generally mean some limit is within sight, it is not the end of "following the prompts" and "attempting every return" the way Spot wants us to. I make sure my TMs do just that - follow the prompts.

Basically, I have the guest use their card, tell the POS if anything is wrong with it, and see what it says. That decision (from the POS) is what I'll stand behind. The nice thing is most of the time the return will at that point be either exchange only, or denied. They've gotten really good about programming the POS to deny shady stuff.

And for the times the POS doesn't know heads from tails, my TMs know I'll more than happily deny it. This usually happens with the typical assortments from HBA. If it's obvious abuse, it's not going through me.

If they insert their red card, the system will allow the return most of the time. I will "attempt" every return if the POS lets me but if there is a return I don't feel right about and I proceed with the return ( only if its $50 or less) I will reprint a receipt and give it to AP. AP is watching returns on camera like a hawk this week and next week, if I get an iffy feeling about the return, I proceed a lot slower than usual with the return and AP will come running to the service desk to back me up when I say no. I love having someone to back me up.

Yup those are good habits you have for sure. Honestly though I don't remember the last time I said no to a return for a red card holder, I do usually take care of them assuming it's nothing truly ridiculous.

We have one guest who has the target credit card, and used it to buy HBA stuff with a bunch of coupons and gift card offers and returned everything a couple of days later with out the receipt using her target credit card. The gift card gets deducted from the return but the amount from the manufacturers coupons goes on a gift card so she still made money. She is no longer allowed to make HBA returns.

I denied one like that last week and sent her ass packing this week. Cause three weeks ago she pulled that stunt(first time I saw her and told her need receipt next time). She got huffy but left with her tooth bushes.
