There is something BIG in the works with Target. All the focus on development, streamlining, etc. is a dead giveaway. I was talking to my FBP the other day, and he sort of slipped and mentioned that some things are in the works. Much bigger than Target Canada. My guess would be a push to start building prototypes that look much more like PFresh and ditching the ST's. Super T's are NOT as profitable. After, not building many stores in the last few years, that is my educated guess.

I'm thinking there is going to be big realignments coming soon to ETL's...... Just a thought.. I mean target is so focused on Team Leader Development that A) Team Leaders are going to filling the roles as ETL's or B) Target is finally realizing they can't hire 22 year olds off the street to run a store and are looking to promote more from within than externally.

I'm thinking they may have realized their mistake in focusing on external hires in the hope of bringing in 'new blood' as they now have an entire generation of ETLs that aren't as steeped in the culture as the TMs & TLs they're supposed to be leading.
My hope is that they could:
a) reverse this somewhat by resuming promotions from within. The advantage is that you're promoting people who have seen the internal workings long enough that they're not shell-shocked when the reality of their job sets in. This would also reduce the number of ETLs who bail after a short (& costly) time & would restore leadership stability. It also provides incentive for TMs who wish to advance instead of tripping them up at every turn.
b) If TLs are to shoulder more of the burden currently borne by ETLs, bring back the specialist positions. Empower them to pick up more of the TLs' lesser duties. Specialists were an intermediate way of spotting potential & it provided a good stepping-stone for those wanting to advance but perhaps hadn't had any college YET.
c) Let TMs see the chain of progression as a reward for hard work, leadership potential & a hope for what they could achieve. Then maybe we MIGHT be the 'best company ever'.

I agree 100% with this. I think under-performing ETL's are going to be demoted, fired, etc. I also believe they are focusing on TL development because they are going to announce a new BIG round of stores in new markets. Instead of hiring cheerleaders off the streets, have TL's that are ready to rock and roll in new stores. Personally I think some of the changes coming are going to be great....potentially :)

This direction makes alot of sense... unfortunately Target has given me every reason to believe that the logic behind your arguments is the exact reason they will NOT do this... i ask myself what doesn't make sense, and usually assume that is the direction we will choose to take :)

You should be at Spot.
Those are some of the best plans I've seen in a long time.
But much like Rock, I'm not holding my breath.
It makes too much sense.

I am pretty sure that the trend is simply going to be a reduction of ETLs while putting those tasks on Team Leads in addition to what thet do all ready. This has been Target grand idea for the last couple years. Lets get rid of this position/job/specialist and just add it to somebody elses workload.

Well isn't the 50th anniversary of Target next year? I could be wrong.... but if it is, I wouldn't be surprised if they do something "big."

Yeah, I talked to my DTL again today and he sort of led me to believe that it is something bigger than team realignment. Who knows. It could be anything....or nothing.

their so much of expectation that the company is not building any more supertargets yet this year their just open 1 supertarget ...my food bp told me that yes they are building more pfresh stores but in some markets they will still continue to built supertargets. He mention that they are putting their focused on pfresh stores and that some stores have a reserve lots to where in the future target might built them as supertarget but depending on how well they perform in food and in total store sales...another thing he told me is that they are also focusing into the new prototype called citytargets that are only supposed to be smaller stores located in heavy populated areas(basically A-volume stores) . these store will be found in urban markets ,downtown etc. and will carried merchandised for apartments, loft, etc. and supposed to have like delivery service, and will also have a focus on food but will not carried any bulky merchandised that will be typically found in a regular big box target store.

City Target is something for sure they are focusing on. Target is going to be opening one up on State St. in downtown Chicago. It is to occupy the old Carson Pirie Scott store.

yeah i heard of that one in chicago...it like a historic building right?, but i hope they built one in my city since i am one of those big urban markets..i wont say it because u know why...but yeah i am located in one of the biggest citys in america...anyways i just want to see how they will look like since they are going to be "A volume stores" but with a very small sales floor .
