Archived Walmart workers getting paid before payday

Using an app from a third party to get even just half pay sounds like a nightmare on so many levels. I get how it can be helpful to some in certain situations

Workers who are less worried about cash issues “feel more confident and more settled at work,” Judith McKenna, Walmart’s chief operating officer, said in an interview.

“We believe this is the right thing to do, and we are happy to champion it,” Ms. McKenna said.

fuckin lol at this concern-trolling couched in corp-speak...reminder that Walmart Inc. is the biggest welfare queen there is, paying dogshit wages and balking forever at raising them to any meaningful amount so that a big portion of its workforce has no choice but to take public assistance. She might as well have said "we looked at the data and found that our labor asset-units perform sub-optimally in scenarios where their utilities are shut off due to insufficient funds"....no shit????

I didn't read the article yet but,

I'd imagine this has a lot to do with a lot of employees using payday loan services.

This is a way for them to basically reroute those payday loan fees to themselves. I would bet dollars to donuts they will only get up to x amount of early withdrawals before they need to pay, and because this behavior is generally self-repeating, once employees start paying up, Wal-Mart is going to reap some benefit.

This is a very low-key and disgusting way of taking advantage of your employees financial disadvantage to essentially lower wages (via circular flow of money).

Target is a flawed company but wal mart truly does not care about their employees.

The number of folks who have left my store to go there only to come back is huge.

Even in areas where wal mart pays better. Their overall benefits and team member support is a joke

My PPTL wants to go to Walmart because they have no standards and therefore less stress.

The thing is... for all the stress target is less likely to actually let you go. Not like wal mart who fires folks for standing up for themselves.

Getting fired at Target requires you to royally screw the pooch or have a leader who has it in for you @commiecorvus @Targetcar can attest to this. Otherwise it's them putting high expectations on people hoping that will lead to achievement.

I kind of laugh when my stl stresses out now. He may be trying to pad his bonus but I'm simply trying to pay my bills. I'm not stressing when I get paid the same no matter what. And don't insult me with the 3 percent raise.

I use an app called Earnin' every once in a while and it'll pay out up to $200 then take it out on your scheduled payday. It's better than a payday loan when you're in a jam just because there's no interest fees.

This! You can win awards, get taken on the corporate jet, get one of the highest scores on your review, and 4-6 months later all of a sudden a new boss comes and you don’t know how to do your job, the position just isn’t meant for you, and so many other things I was told that I can’t repeat here. I can go on and on and on and on. Target is known for leaders that “have it in for you”. I kept my mouth shut for years when I saw it happen to many people I knew. Then it happened to me, and since I’ve left more and more people have reached out to me about it happening to them or somebody in their district. It’s actually disturbing.

None of that behavior is singular to Target, though. Sucky bosses suck and can drive you out no matter the company, and very few companies are good at dealing with them in a timely manner. Most companies are loathe to admit they made a mistake in hiring or promoting someone to manager, so the bad seeds can stick around way longer than they should. The nature of retail may make it easier for those types to stick around, as workers tend to be more transient, but one thing that struck me about Target when I started working there many years ago, after working at OfficeMax was just how many of the people that worked there had been there forever. Same with my store now. It's kind of amazing.

Cheaper prices, better pay, bigger selection

And curbside pickup of online orders.
I can see us testing this actually. I do like that they axed ad-matching. It's too much hassle for groceries.

Target did test curbside a while back. Not sure what happened to that.

We already do curbside at some stores in Minnesota

The prices and selection have nothing to do with working there lol nice try troll.

Target has significantly better benefits, is better staffed and has a cleaner store. We attract better clientele (Not saying much). Target also offers much better job security than Wal-Mart.

My last few trips to Walmart have shown me that our end-to-end is somewhat a failure, at least at many stores. Walmart has a zoned food/grocery area. There are times when ours doesnt even finish freight.

Like Target Walmart is ASANT. I actually feel I have a better job security and growth potential here in Walmart than I did in Target but that's just my store, there's other store like ten minutes away that is a pure shit show and a Walgheto. But it's a totally different retail culture.
