And at the same time cut down on profits. You can bet most TMs are spending less at Target now. They can't afford it on these wages!
I can probably count on the fingers of one hand the days that I haven't bought something since I started working here. I sometimes make two or three purchases a shift.

So with the reduction of hours everyone is seeing, do you think they would hire a seasonal TM to work one day a week? Or would they want full availability only to be scheduled one day?

If you are talking about yourself, I would do it. I wouldn't have to train you, so no problem. Someone who wants only 5/10 hours as a seasonal, I would pass. I will spend 25 hours on training someone who will end up working 40/50 hours for me--not worth it.

I'm curious what time she was shopping.

Like, I do understand *not* having a cashier from 8AM to 10AM at the latest. It's fuckin' dead.

Agree, but we actually get early birds quite often. It always surprises me how many people go shopping at 8 am. Unless I'm working an early shift, I'm asleep until at least 9. I've had guests trying on clothes at the fitting room between 8 and 9. Like, why are you here?

That's when I like to shop. Because I know stores won't be busy yet. I don't like shopping when it's too peopley, makes me cranky.

I was the signing "specialist" for many, many years. I was good at my job and the fixture room and salesfloor reflected that. But, I saw the writing on the wall and finally got the receivers position. Our fixture room now looks like a war zone, and signing is rarely done. But, Spot is okay with that.

I cant imagine the receivers job going away. I'm literally running all day. But if it does and everything falls into chaos, Spot will be okay with that,

Just 5 more years.....

Look at the bigger picture. Front end is expected to be self sufficient but has permission to occasionally get register help when it's crazy. They also have immunity from helping elsewhere, even putting out candy.

Sales floor is expected to be self sufficient and never gets help from the front end, no matter how many times the front end has said "drop all your tasks and quit helping guests on the floor, because even though we have the same proportion of hours we need to take from yours".

So who ends up the loser in all cases? And who is partially responsible for guests not getting helped on the sales floor? Backup should be a rarity, not the front end's go to answer for every staffing hiccup.
Thank you for the laugh. I see all to often sales floor working with heads down, oh and all call box service levels consistently exceeded. They don’t answer calls on walkie nor do they log onto phone. AND... in my store salesfloor consistently is way over hours, that end up being taken from where?? THE FRONT. so you better believe they better get up front and backup to take care of lines of guests. It’s sad to see things like your post and shameful to see it live in person. I’ve worked in all areas maybe that’s my problem but...Unless you have been at the front in any of the positions please don’t pretend SALESFLOOR is keeping TARGET in business.

Back in June, our (whatever GE turned into) ETL told us there would be no more backups at the lanes. They'd schedule enough cashiers, they'd use the line buster thing, and they would shift people around up front (guest service, cafe, Starbucks, etc.) to cover any rushes. When I quit in August, backups were constant. The line buster never worked all summer. GS would complain because they'd get backed up as well. No backups?

A few from my old store still keep in touch and yesterday one was telling me about how GM never gets anything done. Still. They ignore the call boxes and backup requests from the front, and they still don't finish. I'm glad I got out before the holiday season. As much as I liked my TL, he kept piling more and more on but I'd have less time to do it in grocery. Sometimes shelves wouldn't get cleaned because I had no time, due to spending it at the lanes or answering questions in GM because they couldn't find anyone else.

It comes full circle. Sales floor gets nothing done, so there's empty shelves, which equals no sales. But they are also helping at the lanes so they can't stock the shelves they COULD get done. Front end can't help with anything - why stock Bullseye and candy if there's extra people and nothing to do? You're supposed to stay at your lane and not leave. Had I been a cashier as my work center during this garbage, I would have quit a long time ago. If they make sales floor backup cashier, then why can't the front end help stock things up there?

I'm glad to be out of this mess and I think I'll just be watching to see what happens. (And sending good vibes to you current TMs. Heaven knows I can't do it anymore.)

In the past, we generally were informed of an added GM truck at least 48 hours in advance. Has this changed? The inbound team at our store found out about 8 o'clock this morning that there in an added truck tomorrow at 6am and that they are all expected to be there. Is this something that is part of the "new normal" at Target?
