I am a plano TL, and my ETL wants me to work alternate weekends. The last few months, it has been monday through friday, where i am constantly with my team, which helps a great deal.

She says i need to work weekends. She said i can plan and do off stage things, then help work pulls.

I am going to be fighting this one. I only really need a couple off stage hours each week, and when im done, i go back down to help set with my team.

I need all the hours i have to help keep the train running, not because my team needs it bad, but because I want to help make sure plano is always going well. They need a voice, and if i start taking random days off in the weekend, they are gonna be told by the LOD to go do reshop or something.

AGHHHH

anybody else face this problem?

That's unfortunate. Our plano TL works sun-thurs since he also oversees ad prep. They changed him and myself (vmtl) to alternating weekends only during Q4 to help with seasonal and all the POGs that get broken. I would definitely fight for it... are you sure this isn't direction coming from higher up to go to "best practice?" Now that Q4 is over our district is getting super into best practice for some things.

It could be "best practice", but it just makes no logical sense.

It makes no business sense either! I need to be strictly in plano, i stepped down from Sr. TL for that reason itself.

Yeah makes no sense, since Plano and pricing only work during the week. I understand that backroom/flow and salesfloor tl's have to alternate their teams are still there on the weekend. But doesn't make any real sense that a pptl has to, unless all other tl's are complaining you have every weekend off hha

Our plano/pricing tl works alternating weekends. She has done it for some time. The reason they gave her w as it wasn't right for her to get to work Mon-Fri as a team lead ...while other tls were working every other weekend. However, On the weekend she works she will tie up in loose ends ( ie things that didn't get quite finished during the week) or she will do some small revisions etc. When the plano tl went to the Stl to complain she was told fair is fair. So, now she works every other weekend.

I can see them wanting you to alternate weekends like most other TLs do, but expecting you to work pulls or other bs tasks with pog hours is stupid.

If you do end up having to work weekends, you should use the time to set the team up for success on the following Monday. Finish up any loose ends from the week, pull and stage batches, get fixtures down and ready, work small revisions, etc.

Do you have anyone on the team who can steer everyone, including the LOD, in the right direction? I find it hard to believe the LOD would force them to do random shit when you're off (although crazier things have happened).

I do guess working maybe one day a weekend wouldnt kill me, but she wants both days for me.

I am the type of leader that likes to be involved in the setting process, and to go start to finish right up until friday. Most other TL's in my store know that i shouod be on weekdays, but that one ETL, who treats me like i know nothing, constantly wants me to.

Target confuses me.

Best practice for PTL'S to work weekend rotations was added the same year specialist positions were eliminated. What... 5 years now?

I am a Senior POG & Pricing TL. 2 LOD shifts a week plus every other weekend. Only 3 days I'm scheduled P&P and my teams run just fine. You just have to communicate more and demand the LOD and/or your peer TL's to follow up with them on your off days. Plus team development and team engagment are so important.

Weekends you could audit what had been set - do planning/scheduling, run and audit behind the as set team, start Monday's pricing workload ect.

I didn't think there were any dayside TL'S in the company that didn't have to work weekends. This is retail. Consider yourself lucky for as long as it lasts!

The program that can be changed, and has been in the past. So no, i will not stop

PPTLs work every other weekend I've been doing it for years. I also have my price and presentation teams rotate sundays for ad setup. I have Thursday off. On Saturdays I will tie up loose ends, set if I have too, or do some planning. Sundays after ad and audits I will get my pretie ready, prep for the week, put in pog fills. My signing team member works my off sunday she puts in pog fills on my off weekend. Our pogs are pulled and staged for us the day before we set.

STL->ETL->TL->TM

Stop your bitching and get with the program.

You're in the minority here. You're a retail TL, you work weekends. Get over it.

If OP thinks they have an argument and a good case to be made, then OP should make that point.

I think the both of you are just mad that OP currently doesn't work weekends and you do.

It's Pricing/Planogram Team Lead. They need to be their during the week, you know, when their team is actually there.

Our PPTL and VML work alternating weekends and one close per week. POG/Price teams also work weekends.

Okay, I can see the argument for PPTL and VML on weekends. Closing just sounds stupid. Closing is for recovery, not doing small transitions.

IMO making the argument that you always NEED to be there when your team is shows poor leadership skills.

Or it shows your lack of confidence in how the other leaders in your store will actually manage plano when you're not there. In the cosmetics reset of this week, I'd say it'd be a clusterfuck if the PPTL wasn't there just given how much stuff moved around and how little other TLs know about plano

This may be an issue if the PPTL has poor leadership skills.

Since our pptl works every other weekend shes always off one week day a week. Each pptm has a folder on her desk with their name on it . When, shes not there they go into their folder and find out her plan for them fro the day. She ( pptl) also communicates the plan with the lod . Do things sometime happen that throws the plan out of line ? Sure. However, when the happens the tms just let her know the next day. She rearranges things. If an STL who is a leader of the WHOLE store has to work every weekend....then idk why a tl shouldn't expect to do the same .

Sounds like a PPTL with solid leadership skills.

Thank you oath to order. I do not have poor leadership skills, i have a inexperienced team. I am a leader who likes to help lead the big sets of the week, so i know about each and every possible bump in the road, and so i can speak to anything that comes up.

Every plano team is different.

Many of you seem pretty petty. If you dont want me "complaining" thrn don't read my posts.

Yes the PPTL's leadership skills totally have everything to do with the abilities of the other leaders in the store.

All it sounds like is you're annoyed that there's someone who gets weekends off and you don't.
