I've heard rumors that starting next year Target is getting rid of Senior Team Leads...anyone else heard this? And that all TL's will be key carriers or something? What has everyone heard?

Nothing is official. Key carriers are at the store directors decision

Two TLs at my store got promoted to Sr within the past 2 weeks

Correct. The Title of senior is going away. There will still be TLs that are key carriers at store discretion but with the new position of a closing lead covering M-F close, your etls should be plenty to cover the rest of the “LOD” shifts.

Because they still exist until January/February and your store isn’t going to go without key carriers for Q4. Those TLs will continue to be key carriers come modernization and will be offered the closing lead position. If they don’t want it they will most likely keep their keys and just help out here and there with vacations, and call outs but should no longer be on the LOD schedule.

Oh makes sense

LOD is also going away.
The version we know now yes but you still need a leader schedule that make sure there this always someone there to open or close so that’s why I said “lod” in quotations

I don't think that pay can be taken back if the position is. When "specialists" were taken away, the TM kept their pay.

So, the store has every incentive to performance them out and put someone else in their new position who doesn't get the pay?
Umm I guess but why would they want to do that? There’s no point. There’s no “new position”. They’d just become another TL owning specific departments since LOD is also dissolved.

Kind of. But some of the pay will get erased with the increases to the minimum over the next couple of years anyway. They'll still be making a little more, but not much. And some might end up making the minimum.

What they'll probably do is talk to the TL and tell them they now have less responsibility but the same pay, and they'll be expected to perform as such. Ideally, SrTLs are some of the higher performing people in the store and you wouldn't want to performance them out unless they have an attitude problem. (And that's likely to happen to those whose raises get erased by the minimum going up...)

But I also heard they're getting a pay bump. SrTLs, that is. I mean, I'm not sure when it was supposed to happen, and how this will affect it, but if not, at least they'll still get the 40 hours a week. $15/hr is great...if you get scheduled more than 25 hours a week...which I don't always do.

I haven’t heard about seniors getting any more of a pay bump than any other pay grade.

Target is moving towards a more sustainable retail hierarchy where there is one stl, 1-2 etls (assistant managers one for ops side, one for hr side), and key carriers to manage teams.

Most retail organizations function this way, target has been an outlier for a very long time.

I would be surprised if the long term outlook isnt to just eliminate etls completely and move to a manager/assistant/key carrier scheme.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens after the new year. My store has a consumables team lead (me) and a consumables senior team lead. It sounds like we’ll essentially be the same after the restructure. Perhaps one of us will have to transfer or one of will get demoted. Or moved to another department. Either way after talking to our STL I know they won’t be keeping both of us where were at.

No, a change in pay does not incentivize them to performance them out. SrTLs are (supposed) to be some of your hardest working TMs and they've usually been there a while so they won't leave any time soon. At the store level, your STL and ETLs do not care how much someone is making. It's all about how many hours the store is using.
