If you're a Team Leader, how much an hour did you make when you first became a TL. and how often did you get a raise and by how much?

We have a couple TL's in our store that make $22-23/hr. Of course one has been with Target for 23 years and the other for 25 :) $11-16 is a very typical range.

When I was Signing Specialist I was making more than the FA TL. I was at $11.50 and I think she was brought in at $11 or $11.25. When she was talking about how much she made to me one day I didn't have the heart to say I was making more without any of the BS.

Of course my pay rate was only due to working for Target for so long. Back then Target actually gave real raises rather than percentage based, EX scores every year meant a consistent $.55 raise even as a newbie CA.

I started 12 years ago as a TL at $12 an hour. I am a college grad with years of retail management experience. I got an additional dollar an hour shift diff back then.

I have worked at seven stores and three districts over the years and have been maxed out twice. When I stepped down in March, I was making $17.37 an hour as a lead (that includes the now 50 cent shift diff.) I lost $2.50 an hour stepping down to a TM.

The most I made an hour as a TL was last year when I was a temporary key holder for the fourth qtr. I got an extra dollar an hour for that...making my hourly rate $18.37.

The most I grossed as a Team Lead was last year-2010-at $40,000 with OT, holiday pay, premium pay, shift diff, etc. This year (2011), I made $33,650 as a TM for 75% of the year. Next year I will probably be around $30,000 annually. But I can live on that without the BS & stress of being a leader.

well said spike, but sadly there are tms starting in tgt now and if they work for the next 20yrs thay will not reach your rate of pay or mine for that matter.

I am one of the lowest paid TLs in my district, the lowest at my store, and I make more than most ITT have said is "average".

Well starting wage can vary depending on what pay grade whether it's 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, then there is the department you are Team Leader to, then you have to take into consideration what city/state/region you are in, and experience pay, ete, i,e. lots to take into consideration, but it could range from around 11$ to 17$ Raises are Yearly (unless there are unique circumstances where you are performing so well that you supervisors and managers feel you deserve some sort of mid year increase, but that situation is rare, more likely just a promotion ie. paygrade increase.

i believe the 11-16 range is accurate. i know that srTLs in my store get considerably more. over 20 for sure.

While SR TL's can make over 20, that is not the bottom of their pay scale. And everyone's pay depends on what Region of the country, what State, County, City, and even Neiborhood. rate. i know that srTLs in my store get considerably more. over 20 for sure.[/QUOTE]

At my store (1 year old store) all new team leads started at $14 supposedly. Myself since I became a key carrier I got a $1 raise. Now that I have gotten another key I received $.75 raise which brings me to over $16 after being with Target for just over a year. Location must matter since everything is much more expensive around here.

I made $17 as a team leader started at $11ish. got a raise to go to another store

Lol you guys need to stop tricking the TMs on here. When I promoted to TL, I was making a little over $10/hour. Unlike most people on this forum, I know how much TL's make, I was one. There is no TL anywhere in the company that is *starting* at $16+/hour. Even $14 or $15 starting is extremely unlikely except in very high cost of living areas.

The *average* for TL's who have been with the company a few years is about $14 something an hour. The only ones making much more than that are the "lifers".

The average for Sr TLs who have been with the company a few years is $16-17.

I can agree that spot starts you out higher depending on cost of living since where I live it's much more expensive we started out higher.

Or maybe in Canada where minimum wage is 10$ an hour.

WHen I worked for BBy in CA, I took a job commuting to open a store. Our manager fought for our pay grade designation, and it meant I started at $3 higher an hour for my 30 minute drive. I was making $12/hr 12 years ago in a position similar to GSA/GSTL, my old store she was making $9 and had been there a year. THe COL was indeed that much higher in that short of a distance. I wouldn't doubt that Northern California would be a higher paying area for sure than most areas, even in the Target ranks. BUT, it is also not fair to compare them to everywhere else either..... they are a world unto themselves out there! LOL!! (I'm a native, I'm allowed to say that)

It doesn't seem like Target does it like BBy did. The scale was by letter grade, and then within each position there was a range of a few dollars to start the person at depending on experience. Note, we also were not the highest in the company.

Um...I'm starting just shy of $16/hr. Pretty sure I'm one of the rare cases though. I'm making more than any of the other new PG11 TLs that have recently been hired, and I'm making nearly as much as our new SrTL even though I'm just a PG11. I'm not complaining.

I am not tricking anyone. I started at $11ish. I was a hypo and got asked to transfer stores that was much further away and I told them what it would take and they honored it. I also live in a pretty expensive state. Its all on who you know and how much they think of you. My store has done countless hourly pay adjustments to team leads who were going to leave for other retailers because ETLs were recruiting them to come to their new companies. If you live in a state where a 2,000 square foot home cost $150,000 expect the $10-12 range. If it cost $500,000 like my area does for the same 2,000 sq foot home you can expect a good number of TL's will be in that $15 range.

I'm in the same place with you, Softball. Started in the high $16 range and with a Sr promotion I'm at nearly $19/hr.
I know that STLs and HRs will try to secure higher hourly rates to try to get someone to come to their store/company if they really like/see potential in someone.

I started as a PG09 TM @ $9.25/hr a few years ago... After a promotion and a few merits, I was making $14.50/hr as a PG11 Team Member (Yeah, TM.. not Lead). To best honest, they have really weak PG bumps from one to the next, ranging from a lousy .75 raise to a "whooping" $2.25. Honestly, I choose not to go to PG15 (skipping 13) because they only offered me a two dollar raise and wouldn't budge any further. Back then, I chose to stay a TM making more than many TL's (WITHOUT THE STRESS/HEADACHE) than making an extra couple bucks. I got another easy part-time job and now the money flow is perfect, and literally no stress. Being a TL at Target is an invitation to a HEART ATTACK. Wayy too much pressure for basically nothing in return. Think about it.
