Archived The most crucial and least important roles in the store?

I wouldn't factor mental strength into the usefulness of a role

Maybe you'll want to enlighten me on the the stuff in the backend that I won't see? Because things like hangers, getting bags and the like are handled by backroom in my store while cash office is handled by ETLs.

Well planos, filling the entire checklanes with product, team development which entails attendance/performance reports/working with AP on internals/GSA development, shortage visit prep, etc.

At the end of the day, the GSTL is responsible. Despite all the stuff the GSA can do, the GSTL is responsible for him or her.

Your store is different. My store I'm responsible for making sure my team gets bags, hangers, and pulling batches. Pretty much the GSTL manages the entire team and their direction in my store.

Yup, mine is really different. Backroom pulls batches and makes hanger bins and pulls down bags. Plano sets the front. To be fair, the GSA and other cashiers do push candy when there are no guest. There isn't much to develop for in the front end. You can do GS but if no GSA/GSTL quits or leaves then you're just a normal TM doing more work for less pay when you cover breaks.

No I doubt you want to be out in shitty weather.

Most people complain about things but will still do it

Who wants to be out in the lousy weather?

It's just part of the gig...

Complaining just makes you sound like a douchbag.

Guess the entire planet is a douchebag then because everyone complains that it's either too cold/hot/wet/dry or whatever outside

It's my job to pull cafs but I do note that it sucks when they are massive because pogs dropped in there

You don't need to like every aspect of your job

Heck yea. Obese and morbidly obese TM's love gathering carts!!!

Just ask em!
In the South Florida summer, fuck that shit! Keep my fat ass in the A/C! I'm a house slave, not a field slave!

I have always thought that Hr is a huge waste of payroll. I don't see HR do anything that can't be done by team leads or the etl's.
I also think that operator is a waste of payroll. No reason to pay someone to answer and transfer calls, a computer program can do that faster and cheaper.

What is it that you see that HR does? I can guarantee you that unless you have been in HR, yourself, you definitely haven't seen everything. I did cashiering and softlines before I became an HRTM so I can tell you from experience that you realize that the job is not as simple as you previously thought. There are many responsibilities that HR juggles and each thing that we need to do has a long a** process, dictated by corporate, that we have to follow. It's very time-consuming.

TLs and ETLs are busy enough with their own things. I see them already stressing out with just their own work centers. I can't imagine how effective they would be having to handle HR as well. It would be too overwhelming.

No one in store is currently being paid specifically to just answer calls. Sadly, operator is one of the things that a TM from another work center has to multi-task while doing their own work center tasks.

I left :p Although the other TPSs at my store are pretty damn good as well.

Low volume store is obviously low volume.

Some days we have two cart attendants, one for inside carts, bathrooms and carry outs, then the other for the parking lot. When one is on break, it goes to hell fast.
Damn, my store almost always has three, sometimes four...

Least important-
-GSA easily, my store has a horrible GSA and it runs fine.
-Food Ave TL- I think this position was abolished but the Market TL should be the one to handle it.

Most-
GSTL
HRTM
PMT
PLANO
Logisitics

I totally forgot Receiver, if you have a good one, makes life easier for everyone.

I don’t think I can objectively name the most useless position, but I can name the most useless workcenter.

Photo Lab.

Seriously. I don’t even know if it still qualifies as an official workcenter (my store stopped scheduling hours there about a year ago).

But yet it still exists.

Taking up space.

I probably spend more payroll trying to trouble shoot the outdated equipment than we make off sales over there. Gut it, send the guests to Walgreens for their photos, and use it for something better. (I know a lot of stores have already done this - just referring to my own experience)

When I used to work Softlines, I ended up in the Operator role after a couple years. It's definitely not just answering an transferring calls. It's also answering simple questions, handling everything the fitting room entails, and zoning/go-backs near the fitting room. Unless someone is injured and put in the FR/operator role to give them work while they heal or to otherwise comply with doctor's orders, they're doing a hell of a lot more than just answering and transferring calls. All these things still need to be done and now that the FR/O position is being absorbed by a SL TM with other priorities most of the time, it's not getting done well.
There's also the fact that no one listens to the computerized voice. Every time there was a holiday (any time of year) I would inevitably end up answering calls "Hello, this is the X Target, we will be open today from X am until X pm, can I help you find something?" Literally 1/4 to 1/2 of the time, the guest would be like, "Nope, you answered my question already! Bye!"

One role that became legitimately useless and was removed years ago? Jewelry TMs. Once cheap items were being put in the jewelry cases and more expensive stuff out on the counter and we were no longer allowed to do anything with watches, that role became pointless and was rightly ended. I suspect that the only reason we still have locking jewelry cases is because corporate can't decide on a better option and, besides, having locked display cases looks "fancy."

Trust me someone to babysit phones is well worth the money spent. HR is also you need someone there. Today an ETL tried to fuck me over on the new schedule, HR just fixed it.. You think the ETL who keeps cutting my shifts would add me back on the schedule? No. But HR just added them back like they should be since that is how it was written.. She knows this ETL is a shady bitch like that..

Jewelry cases will go away in remodels. Our store still has them but I know other stores have gotten remodels where Jewelry boats have went away. Recently we had to remove the overhead signing that said Jewelry. At one time Jewelry had a Specialist but now it’s not even a department anymore.

Yes, me too! It's so much easier now. It's like one of the few things that I actually like about the new myTime so far. This new myTime keeps freezing on me whenever I try to edit a schedule for just one TM.

I just wish you could print all the schedule grids at once

Lol this reminds me of last week, when a Signing Packet in my STL's mailbox, was the weeks,Toy Deals. After searching for 20 minutes with the GSTL , I ended seeing a promising packet in my STL's Mailbox.

After asking my HR Ladies if my STL would mind if I took this (In hindsight, didn't even say what it was to them, I wasn't even sure as I hadn't opened it). They look at me seriously, and say "You do, whatever you need to do". With a slight nod of approval.

Sorry, but that made me feel super important, lol.

I’m important too guuuuys :(

It’s all fun and games to think one position is more important than the other but as it’s been mentioned than every TM has a place in the grand scheme of things. You can’t remove the human factor out of the equation though.

Some “insert any position” hold down the fort and keep it running, other places probably don’t need “insert said position”.

FA on the other hand....
