Makeshift TPS

Guest
When we lost 60% of the cameras at my store, they told us that it would be better because they could increase the quality and frame rate of the remaining cameras. This week every store in my district has their cameras all cut to 240p resolution, even the PTZs. Our Sr investigators were all laid off, our special investigator is gone. The regional IC is gone.

In the time I've been at Target: Our hours have been cut, our positions have been cut, our investigators have been laid off, our ICs have been closed, our uniforms have been changed to a humiliating Walmart greeter outfit, out focuses have shifted.

I seriously considered becoming an investigator, I wanted to move up the chain and catch the big fish, but that's all in the past now. I don't even want to stay with the company for the experience anymore. I took a TPS position because every cop I talked to couldn't get off how good we were, how infamous AP was for criminals, how potent and sophisticated our specialists and investigators could be. Our uniforms looked exactly like the cops that worked out beat, our focus on external results and internal resolution was exciting and made me look forward to coming into work every day.

Now I wear a knockoff Walmart greeter outfit with handcuffs I never get to use anymore. I stand at the doors all shift and hand out carts. Guest experience comes before shortage reduction, my job isn't even my primary job. It's humiliating, and it's demoralizing, and I hope I get a position at an Academy before word gets out of what AP is becoming I really love(d) working for Target, but this isn't for me anymore. I don't want to sound like i'm crying or stomping my feet even though it may come across as such. I had a vested hope in this company and wanted it to succeed, I was one of the people that fully believed in the vibe and the family they're trying to create, I just cant see myself as a part of it anymore.

I'm probably going to be applying for Police. I was only here for the last couple years to get experience for LE while I was in college. Considered IC but not after what they did to the Tech, senior, and special investigators in the regional ICs.

Dispatch is also a great choice if they aren't hiring le locally.

Why remove the cameras though?!! Our store is the opposite. The AP office got a overall two new flat screen TVS and we added some coverts to cosmetics and some more PTZs. Our TPSs are still very much involved too in investigations, apprehensions, PMRs.. we also just hired an ETL-AP. I am so sorry this is all happening to you :(

Looks like you didn't catch the short end. Probably just had the remodel. Coverage stores was reduced to a standard, most stores getting around 50, super targets getting an additional 7 or so. For some stores that doesn't even cover front lanes and the registers. Most stores in my district had over 100 cameras which was hardly enough, still had zero coverage in grocery, domestics, most of soft lines, sporting goods, toys, the list goes on. Everyone now almost exclusively does guest service bs, if a TPS gets a PMR, its a receipt check. Our corporate people are now doing frequent plain clothes visits in our areas to ensure, of many other things, that AP is doing this. One of the things I like the most when I first joined was working without being micromanaged (and I did it well, produced a lot of good results), but this new high management style kills that for me and many i've talked to in my district.

This is something I don't understand. Part of the reason to cut the number of cameras in stores was because of the cost for the licensing on the camera software. The more cameras, the higher the licensing cost per store. But dropping camera quality to my knowledge doesn't decrease any cost for the program licensing. The only thing it may cut is needed server space to retain video, but even that's a stretch.

A little research on my part showed the different licensing levels are as followed:

-25 cameras
-50 cameras
-250 cameras
-Unrestricted number of cameras

Any reason you are still a TPS?
In College, could take a promotion to APS if it becomes available but my schedule wouldn't be as flexible if I did. This was all just to get experience for LE anyway, so it makes no difference, it only means i'm not interested in perusing a career with this company anymore. Even at higher store positions the same logistical and social issues apply, and the IC positions I would have preferred no longer exist.
