MEGATHREAD Signing Tips, Tricks and Quips (along with howls of despair)

Oh yeah another thing, she wants to start writing out my workload every day and giving it to her. But these past two days, she hasn't asked for it.

@The Global TM It sounds like you have the worst of two worlds, a micro-manager who doesn't understand what you do.
Just as a suggestion since it probably takes way too much time to do a daily list and there's a chance she isn't going to ask for it, than you've wasted the time.
Try this, do a rough weekly with the majors sketched in for each day and then minors down below so they can be dropped in when time warrants.

You can give it to her and say, if you have any questions about a given day I'll be happy to fill in the blanks.
Do you have a signing cart or tub?
I had a tub I adapted so that I could take everything out with me and avoid having to make multiple trips.
Of course, then they complained about my tub not being brand but we won't get into that.

A daily schedule of what you are doing? My PTL isn't that picky, but then again, they know that I know what I'm doing so for the most part they leave me alone and let me do what I need to do unless they want me to do something for them.

My PTL just expect that I do certain things on certain days of the week...every week, and have established expectations of what they want done (things that are done every week - pallet breakdowns, SAP orders, brand walks, statuses, etc.) Wonder if that's what your PTL wants when they say they want a daily schedule.

Tell them to suck it lol. They're technically not your boss. Signing tms are aligned under the pricing TL who was aligned under ETL-SL or ETL-SL/GE or ETL-OPS depending on the store. At least under the old structure. New structure PTL might be your boss. I'm assuming both are under salesfloor now.
I lean more on my plano tl.

Um....the plano TL has always written my review, and is the one I report to. The ad prep TM (who is also called a signing TM) is under the price change TL. It makes it so much easier if they would just leave it as a signing specialist to differentiate between the two TMs.

@NOP, what are brand walks and statuses?

Statuses are one-on-ones with your boss. You should read the Target Talk thread to learn all the terminology that is used on this board and in your store. - http://www.thebreakroom.org/index.php?threads/target-talk-definitions.157/

Brand Walks are that...where you walk the store to make sure they are brand, identify opportunities in areas that need to be addressed.

It doesn't even matter anymore anyway. Pricing and Plano have the same TL now, so signing falls in with POG as far as leadership goes.

So anyone know when is this cse project is back on?

It's back on as soon as you receive your "Fix-It Kit" in store mail ETA 2/26/2014. There will be a follow up shipment on 3/7. First shipment has 250 pieces and 350 in the second.

New training video available on workbench on 2/28/2014.

Fix-It Kit is to repair an issue with the CSE graphic panels tearing out at the holes in the bottom hardware channels.

Follow-Up Kits are to address any subsequent issues post-set and we are to hold onto these for future transitions.

The set can be resumed once the Fix-It Kits have arrived in store and using the fix-it parts as needed. There will not be enough pieces for every section of wall, only to repair sections that tear out of the bottom channel.

New completion dates are 4/4/2014 and 4/11/14 if your store had delivery delays due to the weather.

So no rush to finish the CSE project?

I'm going to be getting it done as soon as possible so I can get all that stuff out of my signing space and so the ETL-LOG will leave me alone.

We also have that big cosmetics transition coming up...not doing both of these at the same time. The less stuff I have hanging around back there, the better. Makes for a more organized environment....less boxes to sort through.

Where did you find this info? I want to share it with my signing tm.

Well I guess Im just going to start mines back up before I get the hardware because It is taking up so much room. I am not looking forward to that cosmetic transition either.

I totally forgot about that cosmetic transition. When is that suppose to happen?

Spreadsheet on Workbench. You type in your store to find out your "target" date (haha). I had to dig around to find it while getting information to prep for it since we've been discussing it for awhile due to the amount of planning involved with this - 22 pallets will be coming in, electrical work will be needed.

There are two groups....The first group is going in March for the transition...everybody else is in April.

Where did you find this info? I want to share it with my signing tm.

Are you referring to the CSE project deadline or the Cosmetics Transition deadline?

does anyone know the part number for the orange bracket like things that slide on to the prongs atop the retractable signing lance, i have tried one-up etc and can't find anything.. the bracket things that the spider clips fit into.. also, for the new cosmetic trans., is the indie stuff changing shelving, fixtures etc., and if not #'s for shelves or strip holders?? thx

Look under rope pull for the bracket things. I don't know it off the top of my head, but can give you the actual part number on Monday morning.

I'll make a list next week of what can be tossed. Everything's going from four-feet to one-foot sections in cosmetics. From what I've read, the entire department is changing, including the Burt's Bees/Organic Skincare/Spa stuff.

As for the One-Up System, they were called heads - I need to replace them too, but prefer the WAV over a pole.

Not sure which part is confusing...so I'll post it all

Message Board about CSE was posted 2/21 for ease of finding
CSE Completion Deadline (No Weather Delay) 4/4
CSE Completion Deadline (Weather Delay) 4/11.
1st Group of Stores Cosmetic Transition - March
Everyone Else's Cosmetic Transition - April

Cosmetic Transition Dates vary by store, have to look at the spreadsheet to find out your store's start date. It is a two week transition, but I definitely know there won't be any vacation time during this.

I just hope the Cosmetics Transition rollout is smoother than the CSE rollout.

I prefer the wave as well, but the back-room zombies rule the day: it is more important that the paper towels can be thrown on the floor from a wave, not a ladder, than the actual appearance of the store might be considered important for the usage of the equipment.. and of course signing doesn't have any checklist to become green, so noone cares about it.. Until the dreaded MERCHANDISE UPDATE says that a stanchion, that says pick up your on-line crap here, which is where anyone with a brain would go, appears, and then you must break open 3 pallets in a breathless rush for s.o.b.tl in case, EGADS..... A VISIT.....YIKES ... DO IT NOW!!!!

And when you finish,

report to me with my fleet of etl's and tl's at our insufferably long huddle , where we grin at each other and "recognize" ourselves for actually showing up, sometimes to work.. so yes the wave....

Searching one-up or "one up" or some variant of it should get you there! I never needed replacement clips, I always had to order an entire new pole after it took a dive into the floor and snapped the orange prongs which are apparently immune to Super Glue.

Got the "fix it" kit today. It's a joke. Anyone else get their kits?

Details? What is in the kit and what does it look like?

I was going to get started on Monday if ours shows up tomorrow. But if it's a joke as you say, I may just go ahead and get back to work on those tomorrow.
