Eliminating task roles is stupid and will never work
Task roles will not be eliminated. They are being blended with service and sales. The days of a task only work center are over. That should have been apparent as soon as E2E was starting to be rolled out. The writing was on the wall way back then.

New pay grades (I have no info on this yet, sorry).
I'm curious if this is the current "new pay grade" that still seems to be kept a secret from every day TM's, or if there is a "new" new pay grade being rolled out with these changes.

The problem with people transferring stores if their position is eliminated is that, at least for my district, transferring is a death sentence. You're often treated as an outsider in the store you transfer to because you aren't "one of theirs" and they have less knowledge of your previous work. Plus, ASANTS so what you did to be successful at your previous store might go against the culture of your new store. Either way, when you are transferred out, that's a death sentence. By transferring you, your store is sending a message to the rest of your district that they needed to cut positions and you were expendable, so you are treated differently than if you ask to be transferred for other reasons. Eventually, an effort will be made to get rid of you either way, so at that point it's best to start the job search anyway.

You'd think it was obvious that such a system wouldn't really work. It's jack of all trades, master of none. You can't have a master at tasks, service, and sales.

It's like a surgeon doing marketing, reception, and surgery. It just doesn't work that way. The surgeon gets someone who specializes in marketing, someone who specializes in reception, and he specializes in surgery.
Hahaha. Are seriously equating service and sales and tasks with being a surgeon? For $15/hr I'm sure Target will have no problem finding candidates that will happily do them all.

How can you say "task roles will not be eliminated" then say "task only work center is over"

It isn't about money. Everyone is wired differently. Some excel at interacting with others, some don't. But those that don't excel at other things.

Some people are better at doing tasks than they are at selling or servicing. That's just how we work. It's how our brains work. It really can't be changed. Some of the most brilliant people in the world can't socialize for shit, for example. And some of the most charismatic people in the world aren't, well, all that smart.

You could throw $15, $50, $500 at people and expect them to do something, but at some point it just becomes impossible for them to do it. You're asking for something that just doesn't work. The entire basis of society is built around people specializing in certain areas. Why do you think that is? Why do you think we transitioned from people who do everything themselves to specialists in specific things? Because it's the most efficient system there is. You accept that people are different, able to do things better than others, and you build something around that.

i have to disagree. this is very objective and can be skewed any which way for any roll. Yes target wants experts and expect people to be able to blend tasks and service, just because there are people that cant do it doesnt mean target isnt allowed to look for this. Sadly things have to change its no longer " you can out a box in a spot" your hired!" you have to have common social skills or atleast be able to learn things. Its not that hard, the tasks themselves are not hard they are just made to look hard because of payroll, once the DC's change this will be apparent. At my store there is a good example of this, our softlines went E2E took them months to figure out how to do their tasks while helping guests, now they are amazing, that area is alway zoned, always full, and everyone knows their stuff. had you asked them any questions before this they would have shrugged and called an lod. Pushing freight is not hard, zoning a rack isnt hard, putting strays away isnt hard, asking someone how are they is not hard we do it all the time with family. Just need to actually try, takes time but it happens. This pilot gives stores the chance to shape how Target will run in 2019 and i would rather take the chance and give as much input as possible instead of saying its impossible it will crash and burn. It will only fail because half ass etl's/tls/and stl refuse to change and try to keep old process that are not meant to work with new.

If people want to earn the 15 and feel like they are doing more that is what Target wants. If someone wants to work a simple task or remedial stuff, walmart is still around.

I find it completely strange, that, Target want's to completely modernize its stores, While disbanding the one team in the store that could see it come to fruition (POG).
exactly. a good POG TM knows how to pull, backstock, set, do revisions, and push. literally all essential skills for a TM in a modernized work center

Yes lets keep rearranging the deck chairs.

I'm a little concerned since my store is over TL headcount by one and I'm the "extra". My position doesn't exist in my store, so it should be interesting to see what happens to me. The closest store in my district is 70 miles away, so it's not really feasible for me to transfer if it came down to it.

One option that crossed people's minds was that they might force people to demote. I think as a last resort if they want to keep you but just don't have a position for you, they might ask you to step down and then you'd keep your pay and maybe be on the bench for the next opening. And, who knows, this could create a mass exodus of Leads who aren't willing to change. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some stores that have a high turnover rate. On the other hand, if they're filtering overflow into other districts who aren't doing the pilot and causing them to go over headcount, I imagine that any openings in the pilot districts will be filled by that overflow first. So if you're a team member wanting to promote, it might be a long wait for you.

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned/stressed yet is the changes to schedules. With the new closing lead and leader positions, that means no closing for everyone else, except on weekends. However, with the service focus, they want more coverage during peak hours, which means many leads/leaders will have mid shifts. Makes sense for the business but for people with kids/commitments, it's a point of concern.

I agree that this will roll out much smoother for stores that already made the E2E transition in grocery, A&A, and beauty. Not having to deal with moving a big chunk of flow dayside means one less change to make. For stores that have already done that, flow won't change much at all (although for pilot stores, they moved the sales requirement to be overnight up. Company wide it's $65M to be overnight but with this pilot it's $72M. So some stores will have to transition to 4am/6am on top of this - I don't envy the leadership team that has to make that announcement)

that is why pog was suggest to be rolled into GM and split between all the areas, so they can develop them.

So what’s the future for a signing TM ?
Better pick a department you want to work in... Store Modernization is E2E on Steroids. Every department and its TMs are expected to be able to pull, backstock, Set Pogs, make signs, etc.. on their own.

So what’s the future for a signing TM ?

There will definitely be a title change but my STL seems to think that team member won't change their job functions just yet. I mean, hypothetically each team would take care of their own signing but obviously it would be a disaster if there was no one to sort through the signs, take care of the fixture room, and do all the other small but vital tasks the signing team member currently does.

But, then again, much of this is unreasonable so I wouldn't be surprised if they moved that team member and let the signing fall to pieces.

Is there anyone at a DC, that can chime in, and talk about any changes there? I have yet to see any changes in the way product is delivered to the store (Which this, as well as enough equipment) is what will either sink or swim here, with this transition. (comparison being another Target Canada, but all Target.)
