MEGATHREAD Signing Tips, Tricks and Quips (along with howls of despair)

Built both of the girls and boys accessories shippers today.

If you have extra long viking clips laying around, use those to attach the base to the platform. The short ones work, but not very well and require some serious squishing of the cardboard.

Also, make sure you put the correct risers and plastic pieces on the right side...the directions were a bit confusing as to how many go on which side and which ones go where.

Took me about an hour without any interruptions (not including cleanup).

I LOLed at the part where it said two team members (one to read the instructions, the other to work)...

Happy Building!

you know, I tried to start an email chain with our ptls because most of them are new. ive trained 5 or 6 in the last 18 months, and a couple of them just quit. but hardly no one responds. it makes me sad. no one wants to help or give advice, or in the case of our district, they seem to want to say they're the best rather than improving the company as a whole or have someone help with their process. i wish someone would give me pointers to improve myself or my team. thank goodness for TBR!!

I did the same thing with my district, have the same issues you do - nobody responds unless it's something that they need.

Damn wish I started those first.

I only worked 2 days this week (going on vaca) I finished this weeks work and decided to go into next weeks "Why Target" boxes instead of the shippers.

Were there any other instructions that explained HOW they wanted the endcap headers placed? By the time I Found the ?instructions? I had placed 2 full boxes of headers and was just opening the 3rd box of endcap headers and then saw in those instructions that there were 3 different endcap headers, but no real instruction on how they wanted them placed.

Or was there and my little speed signing brain didn't catch it?

I don't think there is any specific way they want the new headers up, except for grocery where you can't put up any of the target.com or target app headers because they don't sell groceries online. What I am going to do is probably alternate between endcaps and leave up any ISM header already up. Focus only on the front endcaps because I don't think they sent enough for both fronts and backs.

So is the "Why Target" signing replacing the price match signs (with the big orange circle)/low price promise/empl?
I hope we got enough, or we'll end up in the same place we're in with Expect more, pay less on about 3/4ths of the endcaps, the price match signs on the rest and then a few random low price promise dogs for when we ran out of everything else.

I put the new endcap signs up today. They do replace the Price Match signs. All Price Match signs and Low Price Promise are to be thrown away. I had enough signs to put on both front and back endcaps. I changed out every endcap minus the ones that already have ISM signs and endcaps with Clearance/Sale/TPC.

Yay!! I'm so happy I finally found a thread about signing! I've been with target working in elect for quite sometime but recently the past month got promoted to signing. I can't tell if things are going well or not. I feel like I'm always behind (I just put up my back to school overheads yesterday and have some 7/7 signing hanging around). I feel the main problem at our store is that there is no partnership between signing and the Plano team. They never even attempt to look for anything besides backer paper when setting. And our Plano team lead is so lost and air headed she has no idea what's going on. The same thing with team leaders and their sales plans. Or my current favorite thing is that they are tying them and never setting them. Or if they do set them its like 3 weeks after they tied it. On top of all this I'm constantly being hounded by the STL and ETL team to organize the fixture room and dismantle all out softlines racks and get rid of our all the fixtures we don't need (our past ETL softlines and signing team member left everything a disaster). It just feels like I'm being pulled in 18 different directions everyday. Dies anyone else feel this way?

Welcome to The Break Room.
There are a lot of signing ninjas here who can answer any questions you might have.

I was in this situation too. I had enough for all my fronts and backs. I alternated between shop with confidence, download our app and check out target.com in the store besides grocery. I had plenty of shop with confidence headers and a few of the other two left. The shelve talkers are super cool. I just don't know what to do with then with my ends that have no shelves!!

What happens if you scan ad signs into the wrong aisle?

when ad takedown occurs on Saturday, the system led takedown will tell them to go to the incorrect aisles. stores should be walking all the aisles looking for old/takedown signs anyway, shouldn't be a big deal. if you know where the correct location is, just rescan them in to the correct location. at least that way, the system will lead them there.

or you could just "not found" everything and walk the aisles. that's what we do. :)

This is a question I've asked at our store, but no one knows. I don't do the normal ad signing, but I do take care of the the ebatches that drop during the week, & I am scanning them in late. Does that count against the score?

When you unload a very small signing supply pallet, that is the time to ask for hours for the following week to repair the signing room. You might ask to get a experienced plano person to help you with the decisions on what to toss. Softlines racks & large gondola parts DO NOT belong in the fixture room. That should be your #1 task to get rid of those or have that team find a new place for them.

I'd be happy to answer any questions or give organization ideas if you pm me.

Started the 8/25 cosmetic set today and completed Almay, Maybelline and NYX. Missing 15 signs from Maybelline kit and 2 from Almay. I can't access online packing list to find out if more cosmetic signs are coming next week.

Not a good start.

Haven't been able to access online packing slip either for two weeks. Add that to the incomplete/missing packing slips for pallets. No idea what we're supposed to have in store.

Anybody know anything about this?

SAP was working fine for me, however there was a message board saying that it was supposed to go down. Online packslip wasn't working on Friday either.

Did you ever find out about this? On one had I would say that it does because of how particular everything is with the new sign audit - however, since I don't handle those at my store it probably doesn't. Our Pricing TL does them, or on days when the Ad Team is in, they do them. If it dinged your score you I think you would have heard from someone about it by now.

Mine starts Tuesday. I'm not looking forward to it. Is it new signs missing, or CF that your store never had? We've had that happen before.

How's the signing world lately everyone? I've been off the boards since that password change things - never had the time to figure out how to get back on until now with all the Toys/Infants/Softlines/BTS/BTC shenanigans going on. It's finally "quiet time" for one more week (well, at least Monday will be, once cosmetics starts all bets are off). BTC was a disaster. Every year they try and put some ETL "in charge" to prove themselves by managing it, but they always blow it. Usually Myself, and the PTL get stuck handling it (although one year, it was me, ISTL, and a Sr.TL and it worked out). This year we had "no involvement" and they messed up so many things on so many levels it was ridiculous. I even sent out emails about what to expect and how certain things would help them get through it but nobody reads those.

Anyway - fixture room has been slowly gaining traction. However they are throwing a curveball and trying to stuff up my signing area with clearance so now I can't get the crown in, can't move my pallets around, and at this point am in danger of not being able to even get them to my area. We shall see on Monday how it goes. I ordered a bunch of champagne straight bars and faceouts to finally fix the shoulder hang bar situation in the fixture room (our store still uses grey so these will be different so they don't get swiped - in theory) using the photos someone posted on here some time ago.

Thats all. POG is feeling the pain in the hours crunch. Got our packets for Halloween - 4th quarter is creeping up.

Hi everyone! Just found this site today. I'm the signing specialist at my store. Been doing it for almost exactly a year now. I sure have a lot to say, and A LOT of questions! I cant wait to learn from this community.

That aside, does the signing specialist at your stores have to control the fixture room? How do you maintain it - especially on top of your workload?

I inherited a terrible, unorganized fixture room and slowly throughout the year I've begun to learn what each fixture is used for. They've given me a lot of hours to clean it a few times now but every time I do, within 2 days the room is TRASHED again. It's unsafe and impossible to find fixtures. Now I am really trying to get it under control before halloween set (I know, I'm cutting it close!). Tips/Suggestions?

We were missing quite a few of the bullnose graphics for Maybelline and for Revlon. Everything else was perfect. NYX was a bugger to set. The planogram wasn't at all helpful as to which fixtures to use.
