MEGATHREAD Signing Tips, Tricks and Quips (along with howls of despair)

Ok you signing members, question..
Have any of you been doing signing for a few years? Meaning since 2009 to 2011 ish area? That's when I did signing and I was wondering how much has changed? From shopping in target it seems the Christmas signing was scaled down a TON lol.. but I just applied for a signing position again (currently not working at target) and was wondering if I should expect pretty similar or has there been a lot of changes(if I get the position)...
I had been going for a Sr Tl spot but was not selected (no previous management positions held) and I guess I will try to start out as a tm again since I still have over a year of school and try to talk to the stl I work for to let them know my goals long term.. again, assuming I get the position...

Is it Bullseye Bodega this year or was that just the once?

All the Hispanic members of the team thought that was funny as hell.

They are "trying" to scale it down. You'll notice some simpler sets (like xmas....which was less stuff, but required 2 people for the most part because of size, etc) and less hours from the POG workload - and less in the monthly signing update, but I know I am just as busy as I was before. It really depends on how that particular store (i don't know if its your same store from before or a new one) handles the position. i know my store, they have added things to my plate, but the majority of my time is as it was before, and i get my full hours. there are other stores that now that the specialist position is gone they treat it as a grab-bag for hours. some have a rotating cast that do it, others sub in a tm a few days/hours a week. i don't know how they do it, but the stores i have been in that do it this way - i can usually tell when i walk in the door.

Yeah apparently they give the signing person 40 a week at this store. I typically did Christmas solo even back.then, bc I never asked for help, but I was.offered the position.. now im just hoping the hr bp.is nice im hoping.to.get some experience pay bc this store's signing tm starts 2$ lower than my previous store...
Had my first interview last night and 2nd today and got the position already lol, trying to have me start Wednesday as long as drug test and bg check come back in time..

But anyways, do you set more pogs now than before? Personally before I used to mostly only help with revisions and pulls when it was slow.. but even back then my store typically scheduled me only about 32-35 hours a week.. so I'm interested to see what this store expects of their signing tm..

Anyone else receive direction that the "expect more pay less" signing is ONLY to be used on side caps from now on?

Yes, about a year ago.

Hey, is anyone else having trouble with the infant set?

Some planos are listing both dots and linen backer, so if the team member scans the dots backer paper, it shows it is valid. I didn't catch one of my team while they were doing it so I'll have to go back over and reset theirs.

Strollers isn't listing backer at all.

Also missing a dozen displays that aren't on the early set notes "coming late" list.

Hours are cut to the bone so I don't know when I'm going to fix all the issues.....

it do but just on 1st section. i told my planoteam to put it on all section.

The early set notes I have show about a dozen displays that are arriving late. And about the backer paper...I'm telling my team to do the same thing. Put the new paper up in all the sections in all aisles. Lord knows I got sent enough.

"lucky" for me my team can't bothered with reading planograms these days. i hand them a box and say put it up. first time i wasn't scurrying around on top of the flat for once, which was nice. although when one tm set without shelfliner on the nit toy pog, i thought lazer beams were going to shoot out of her eyes. really? all that really tells me is that you didn't read your pog. i shouldn't have to spoonfeed you everything you need.

does anyone know why in the world they would send all the NIT headers in just one large, giant box? i haven't even had the time to unbox it yet. i've been putting up everyones displays and all that jazz. i still have toys outriggers to put up. and fresh new leadership means more "great" ideas for me to personally handle all the brand maintenance in the entire store. joy. anyway - is this box going to make sense? i dread opening it in the morning.

oh, and hello everyone. i feel like i've been so scarce on here. i've been reading, but for the life of me can't remember my password when on my tablet (which is most of the time).

**edit:
oh, and i'm missing a handful of displays as well, that list actually had a lot of DTS things that i had already gotten. not as many as usual. although i did find a stroller that the pog team threw out already. i set the gear signs on the stroller side, and was like where is this stroller (distinct because of a stripe)? and the tm was like "oh, we didn't get that" i was like, it was here this morning. before you even touched this aisle. "no, no, you must have seen the one that i built in the back". no, it was up on the flat. is it in the back? "no. are you sure it was even here?" which is when i pointed to the matching carrier plopped on another stroller. yeah. luckily though, if thats the biggest toss out we had we are lucky. its been worse.

oh, did anyone else send up mysupports about their missing bottle displays? only to find out that it was marked as "carriers" instead? that was a nice surprise 10min before i was trying to leave for the day.

Oh! and did anyone else have the simmons focal set randomly listed in a random section of the gear flat as going on shelf "3" (and not where the bouncer fixtures are - aka the only place that would be possible?)

For Greydot:

For the headers, you have to use more/less of the graphic headers and the ISM sheet that shows the cadence for each aisle. Most aisles have 4 graphic headers. Many of the headers you need will scan NOP. For instance, the aisle may show 4 ISM headers and the rest generic, only 3 will scan for the aisle, but you actually need 4 if they fit. Then you go back and fill in with the non-graphic headers (generics). Was kind of a pain in the ass, so don't lose the ISM instruction sheet. Also, headers don't all scan for the correct section to match the ISM directions that were sent. The top-down adjacency style view will show you which aisles don't get headers (ones that didn't reset) like diapers, wipes, formula, baby toiletries.

I had all my bottle displays, but there are two tommee tippee and only one sign was sent. If you have the Eddie Bauer playyard that ends in 2536, the actual DPCI is 2535 and the sign scans as NOP yet you need it. Mysupported for part number, and they told me it was in the kit. Replied that it wasn't in the kit, and the dpci for the shelf talker is NOP.

As far as simmons focal, cribs, and dressers being on shelf three in the last section of the Gear Flat pog, this is intentional. These are the backroom only items, and the cover page, in the midst of all the outdated/irrelevant info does tell you that this shelf is backroom only items. They have to put them on a POG somewhere, otherwise the furniture would all scan NOP (since it wouldn't be on a POG).

I was short a ton of backer paper. My gear flat is 18 sections times 2 sides, which is 36 sections and at two sheets per that's 72 sheets. They sent 60. Main gondolas short backer paper.

"Some planos are listing both dots and linen backer, so if the team member scans the dots backer paper, it shows it is valid." This was a known issue, at least for endcaps. Endcap backer is supposed to in in "7643" or something like that, and these ones are perforated on the edges so you can cut to 3ft. The main gondola backer paper was not perfd (WHY?????). Creating two part #s for the same thing so they didn't have to perf them all I suppose.

2014 has not been off to a good start backer paper wise. We were short on backer paper for every set we've had thus far except for Toys...and that's only because nobody used it.

@GreyDot, my team does the same thing...they don't read the planograms either.

Even better on my POGs, for a couple of our aisles it ONLY calls for the old dot backer paper, and has no listing whatsoever for the new BP. Since they didn't bother sending enough, we left that valley set with the old as per POG.

Thanks for all the info!

Okay then. Today, I will remove all the dot backer paper on the stroller aisle and not replace it.

My team has a dominate member who tossed all the displays she deemed non carry forward before I got in the building. They know better to wait for the set to be completed, but ,,,,,,,,,. I swear that monkey swing was carry forward? It hit the trash first.

I'm setting the planogram for the cribs today by myself. I'm sure I'll find it, but if anyone can give me a hint where to find the layout directions? This was a last minute request before I left. Is it as simple as right on the planogram? lol!

Oh and we didn't get 2 of the wooden furniture displays. **sigh**

Monkey swing was not carry forward. There is a new pattern on the fabric that is like 3 lines | | | alternating directions in a cube shape. Old pattern had like red/orange swirls or something. Same for the monkey rocker. Year before they has a floral design. I rec'd the rocker but not swing.

Gear flat with strollers should have half-size backer. I only put 1 sheet on each section.

yes. this.

Maybe I'm losing it, but it looks like this year for the gear flat they sent signs for all the options of the items, and not just the ones on display. Like on play yards we were at around 12 signs, and 6 displays. for speed i scanned all the signs and put them up in order so that the team could use the pictures to set the displays (still had some tossed, though) but that lead to extraneous signs being up. i assume they are for the swatches because we carry the items, but the tl and etl said to pull them.

we only got one new wooden display, but found out that somewhere along the line someone ended up putting up two of the same cribs up (one on focal, one on flat) so now that has to be fixed as well.

our monkey swing stayed. (unless they swapped it and i didn't realize it.)

So random Q.. did all of you other signing people have to build every single display for this past week's NIT set? (strollers bouncers and such).. Just curious because with the workload and only being scheduled 30 hours it didn't seem I had enough time to do that plus ALL the signing...

From past posts it seems that display building responsibility varies from store to store. In mine plano usually does it, but our signing person often helps, depending on workload.
